Introduction: Hand microsurgery is an important advancement of the speciality that has improved outcomes in hand trauma and hand surgical conditions. This bibliometric analysis aims to identify the 75 most cited hand microsurgery articles and explore their relevance to contemporary practice.

Methods: The Web of Science core collection database was used to screen and identify the top 75 most-cited articles relevant to hand microsurgery.

After the screening, eligibility, data extraction, and methodological quality assessment, 21 studies were selected.

alpha toxin (CPA) is an important enterotoxemic pathogen linked to gastrointestinal disorders and previously associated with pulmonary disease in other mammals. A young female neotropical otter presented with lethargy, anorexia and steatorrhea, which developed within 24 hours. Veterinary care was provided under anesthesia, during which dehydration, intestinal hypermotility and pulmonary crackling sounds were identified.

Nonoperative Management of Pretibial Lacerations in a Nurse-Led Clinic: An Observational Study.

In our tertiary plastic surgery center, patients with wounds that will not be treated surgically, including complex pretibial wounds, that would traditionally have been managed operatively are managed on an outpatient basis in a nurse-led pretibial laceration clinic. We conducted a study to investigate dressing usage and assess correlators with healing time or number of appointments. We collected data regarding dressings used, time to discharge, and number of appointments retrospectively over 14 months between 2019 and 2021.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are considered an attractive generation of novel antibiotics due to their advantageous properties such as a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against pathogens, low cytotoxicity, and drug resistance. Although they have common structural features and it has been widely demonstrated that bacterial membranes represent the main target of the peptide activity, the exact mechanism underlying the membrane perturbation by AMPs is not fully understood. Nevertheless, all the proposed modes of action implicate the preliminary interaction of AMPs with the negatively charged lipids in bacterial membranes.

The integration of advanced materials and photonic nanostructures can lead to enhanced biodetection capabilities, crucial in clinical scenarios and point-of-care diagnostics, where simplified strategies are essential. Herein, a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) photonic nanostructure is demonstrated, which selectively binding to transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), in which the sensing transduction is enhanced by bound states in the continuum (BICs). The MIP operating as a synthetic antibody matrix and coupled with BIC resonance, enhances the optical response to TGF-β at imprinted sites, leading to an augmented detection capability, thoroughly evaluated through spectral shift and optical lever analogue readout.

IgM is the major circulating Ig isotype in teleost fish, showing in Antarctic fish unique features such as an extraordinary long hinge region, which plays a crucial role in antibody structure and function. In this work, we describe the replacement of the hinge region of a murine monoclonal antibody (mAb) with the peculiar hinge from Antarctic fish IgM. We use the CRISPR/Cas9 system as a powerful tool for generating the engineered mAb.

Risk of corrected QT interval prolongation in patients receiving antipsychotics.

Antipsychotic (AP) use has been associated to QT interval prolongation on the surface electrocardiogram (ECG). Our study aimed to determine the incidence of corrected QT (QTc) interval prolongation among patients admitted to a psychiatric hospitalization unit requiring AP treatment and to assess the relationship between administered dose and QTc interval changes. We enrolled 179 patients admitted to the Hospital Psiquiátrico Departamental Universitario del Valle in Cali, Colombia.

Objective: To undertake a United Kingdom national medical student survey investigating undergraduate plastic surgery exposure and specialty perceptions.

Background: Plastic surgery incorporates all anatomical regions, age groups and tissue types; clinical challenges vary from trauma and burns to congenital defects and cancer and although around 50% of the workload is trauma, it is often misperceived to revolve around cosmetic surgery.

Method: Following ethical approval, a national survey was conducted across 27 included UK medical schools (31/03/23-07/07/23).

The thyroid of dogs has not been extensively studied in 2D shear-wave elastography, making it challenging to apply this technique in the diagnosis of thyroid diseases in a non-invasive manner. The aim of this study is to evaluate the thyroid glands of healthy dogs using 2D shear-wave elastography in order to establish qualitative and quantitative parameters of tissue stiffness in dogs in different age groups. A total of 31 dogs of various breeds, sexes, and sizes were evaluated.

Prune-Belly Syndrome: An Update.

The Prune-Belly (Eagle-Barrett) syndrome (PBS) is a congenital and genetically heterogeneous disease, more prevalent in males, defined by the clinical triad (1) deficiency of abdominal muscles, (2) bilateral cryptorchidism, and (3) urinary tract abnormalities. The abdomen of an infant with PBS has a typical appearance, similar to the aspect of a prune, which gives it its name. Although the etiology of this disorder is still unknown, numerous theories, mutations, and genetic disturbances have been proposed to explain the origin of PBS.

Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS®): a success history and particularities of its use in Brazil.

BI-RADS® is a standardization system for breast imaging reports and results created by the American College of Radiology to initially address the lack of uniformity in mammography reporting. The system consists of a lexicon of descriptors, a reporting structure with final categories and recommended management, and a structure for data collection and auditing. It is accepted worldwide by all specialties involved in the care of breast diseases.

LRRK2 kinase inhibition protects against Parkinson's disease-associated environmental toxicants.

Idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD) is epidemiologically linked with exposure to toxicants such as pesticides and solvents, which comprise a wide array of chemicals that pollute our environment. While most are structurally distinct, a common cellular target for their toxicity is mitochondrial dysfunction, a key pathological trigger involved in the selective vulnerability of dopaminergic neurons. We and others have shown that environmental mitochondrial toxicants such as the pesticides rotenone and paraquat, and the organic solvent trichloroethylene (TCE) appear to be influenced by the protein LRRK2, a genetic risk factor for PD.
