Prospective evaluation of the functional and anatomical results of arthroscopic repair in small and medium-sized full-thickness tears of the supraspinatus tendon.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relation between tendon integrity and functional results following the arthroscopic treatment of small- and medium-sized rotator cuff tears.

Methods: Arthroscopic repair was performed on 26 consecutive patients (21 women, 5 men;mean age: 55.9 years; range: 33-72 years) with small- and medium-sized tears of the supraspinatus tendon.

The role of Doppler sonography in predicting severity of acute pancreatitis.

Purpose: To investigate the role of Doppler sonography (DUS) examination of major abdominal arteries in predicting severity of acute pancreatitis (AP).

Methods: Twenty-nine patients diagnosed with AP and 14 controls were blindly and prospectively evaluated with Doppler sonography. Disease severity was defined clinically according to acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE II) score and was classified as severe for APACHE II score > or =8.

Hepatic abscess: a rare manifestation of brucellosis in children.

Hepatic abscess caused by brucellosis is extremely rare in children. We report the case of a 5-year-old girl in whom an abscess of the liver developed during an episode of acute brucellosis. To our knowledge, this is the second reported case of hepatic abscess caused by brucellosis in a child.

Effects of selective alpha-1-adrenergic receptor blockers on bladder weight.

Introduction: This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of two different alpha(1)-adrenergic blockers on bladder hypertrophy using ultrasound-estimated bladder weight (UEBW) and to assess the relation between changes in UEBW and other objective and subjective parameters of disease severity in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Intratesticular varicocele is a rare entity and describes dilated intratesticular veins radiating from the mediastinum testis into the testicular parenchyma.
