Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease worldwide. Despite advancements in various treatments, the prevalence of DKD continues to rise, leading to a significant increase in the demand for dialysis and kidney transplantation. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a Small cell＋Ultra Potent＋Scale UP cell (SMUP-Cell), a type of human umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cell, on DKD in the db/db mouse model of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The carbon dioxide removal (CDR) capacity of macroalgae, a crucial component in climate regulation, has gained increasing attention. However, accurately estimating the CDR potential of macroalgae in natural conditions remains challenging, necessitating the use of multiple independent methods to reduce the uncertainties in these estimates. In this study, we compared two methods for estimating net ecosystem production (NEP), a key parameter in determining CDR potential: 1) NEP, derived from seawater carbonate chemistry and 2) NEP, based on photorespiratory measurements using benthic tent incubation.

The role of ethnic enclaves and neighborhood socioeconomic status in invasive breast cancer incidence rates among Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander females in California.

Purpose: Few studies have examined whether the incidence rates of invasive breast cancer among Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) populations differ by the neighborhood social environment. Thus, we examined associations of ethnic enclave and neighborhood socioeconomic status (nSES) with breast cancer incidence rates among AANHPI females in California.

Methods: A total of 14,738 AANHPI females diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2008-2012 were identified from the California Cancer Registry.

Energy-intensive ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers used for biospecimen storage are a significant source of carbon emissions. ENERGY STAR-certified ULT freezers have the potential to decrease the carbon footprint.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop an Infertility Perception Scale for Women (IPS-W).

Purpose: This cross-sectional study aimed to identify factors influencing the intention for continual fertility treatments among women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART).

Methods: A total of 197 women were recruited through convenience sample from fertility hospitals in Gyeonggi-do and Busan, South Korea. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire incorporating measures of uncertainty; Depression Anxiety Stress Scales; Fatigue Severity Scale; Coping Scale for Infertility-Women; spousal support; treatment environment; and intention for continual fertility treatment.

Background: Randomized controlled trials in Guinea-Bissau and Uganda have revealed that the intensive promotion of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) impairs growth in early infancy. When newborn growth is impaired, small amounts of formula may be combined with breastfeeding to promote growth.

Methods: To determine if breastfeeding combined with once-daily formula supplementation improves growth among at-risk newborns, we conducted a pilot randomized controlled trial in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau and Kampala, Uganda.

Although immunosuppressive therapy (IST) is a major treatment option for AA, one-third of patients do not respond to IST and its resistance mechanism remains elusive. To understand AA pathogenesis and IST resistance, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) of bone marrow (BM) from healthy controls and patients with AA at diagnosis.

Several efficient and flexible procedures have been developed under the assumption that the internal study and the external sources concern the same population. This homogeneity condition, albeit commonly being imposed, is hard to check due to limitedly available external information in aggregate data forms.

Bayesian adaptive design for covariate-adaptive historical control information borrowing.

Interest in incorporating historical data in the clinical trial has increased with the rising cost of conducting clinical trials. The intervention arm for the current trial often requires prospective data to assess a novel treatment, and thus borrowing historical control data commensurate in distribution to current control data is motivated in order to increase the allocation ratio to the current intervention arm. Existing historical control borrowing adaptive designs adjust allocation ratios based on the commensurability assessed through study-level summary statistics of the response agnostic of the distributions of the trial subject characteristics in the current and historical trials.
