Angiographic and clinical outcomes of non-patent anastomosis after bypass surgery in adult moyamoya disease.

Background: The clinical and radiologic outcomes of symptomatic adult moyamoya disease (MMD) patients who have an occluded anastomosis immediately after bypass surgery are poorly studied. The clinical and angiographic outcomes of non-patent anastomosis in symptomatic adult MMD patients were retrospectively reviewed.

Methods: From August 2011 to November 2016, 31 revascularization surgeries, consisting of direct and indirect bypass, were performed on 29 adult MMD patients.

Self-releasing of a titanium clamp (CranioFix) in cranioplasty.

The CranioFix titanium clamp was developed for fixing bone flaps after craniotomy. In this case, to prevent cosmetic problems, the bone flaps were trimmed with a beveled edge, and a CranioFix clamp was used for bone flap fixation. As the brain swelled, the CranioFix clamp became loosened.

Predictive value of neurophysiologic monitoring during neurovascular intervention for postoperative new neurologic deficits.

Purpose: Forms of intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM), including somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) and motor evoked potentials (MEPs), have been widely used in the field of neurosurgery. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of IONM in identifying intraoperative events and predicting postoperative neurologic deficits in neurovascular intervention.

Methods: From January 2013 to December 2016, we retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent neurovascular intervention under general anesthesia with the use of IONM.

Idiopathic Interdural Hematoma in Adult: A Case Report.

Interdural hematomas are primarily observed in infants, and adult interdural hematomas are rare. We describe a 54-year-old woman with a round, well-defined mass. The mass was an interdural hematoma that was misdiagnosed as an epidural hematoma.

Intra-arterial Thrombolysis for Central Retinal Artery Occlusion after the Coil Embolization of Paraclinoid Aneurysm.

The most common complication of coil embolization for cerebral aneurysms is thrombo-embolic stroke; in rare cases, these strokes, can present with central retinal artery occlusion. At our institution, a 53-year-old woman underwent stent-assisted coiling of the aneurysm. The patient's vision was improved immediately after intra-arterial thrombolysis and had further improved 8 months later.

The Interference Phenomenon of Microcatheters in the Jailing Treatment for Internal Carotid Artery Side Wall Aneurysms with an Open Cell Stent System.

Objective: Excelsior XT-27 (Stryker Neurovascular, Fremont, CA, USA) or Rebar 27 (eV3 Covidien, Irvine, CA, USA) microcatheters have recently been used to overcome the limitations of the Renegade Hi-Flo microcatheter such as interference between two microcatheters (one for stent delivery and the other for cerebral aneurysm coiling) during the jailing technique. We evaluated differences and influential factors related to the interference phenomenon according to these two microcatheters group.

Materials And Methods: Between June 2011 and September 2013, the jailing technique was applied to 94 internal cerebral artery (ICA) aneurysms.

Salvage STA-MCA bypass surgery in an adult moyamoya patient after failed indirect revascularization surgery.

A 39-year-old female moyamoya disease patient underwent a salvage direct bypass surgery involving anastomosis of the superficial temporal artery or STA and middle cerebral artery or MCA. This report describes a rare case of moyamoya disease that was revascularized after the previous indirect bypass surgery failed to restore collateral blood flow.

Comparison between Two Different Cervical Interbody Fusion Cages in One Level Stand-alone ACDF: Carbon Fiber Composite Frame Cage Versus Polyetheretherketone Cage.

Objective: The authors conducted a retrospective study to compare the implantation of carbon fiber composite frame cages (CFCFCs) to the implantation of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cages after anterior cervical discectomy for cervical degenerative disc disease. In addition, the predictive factors that influenced fusion or subsidence were investigated.

Methods: A total of 58 patients with single-level degenerative disc disease were treated with anterior cervical discectomy and implantation of stand-alone cages; CFCFCs were used in 35 patients, and PEEK cages were used in 23 patients.

Candida Arthritis after Arthroscopic Arthroplasty in a Patient without Predisposing Factors.

Because candidiasis is usually associated with immunosuppression, candida arthritis in an immunocompetent patient is rare. The symptoms of candidiasis are similar to bacterial infections, tuberculosis, and autoimmune diseases. In our patient with no predisposing factors, candida arthritis was initially excluded because the probability of occurrence was low.
