Background: When restoring the appearance and function of the fingers, hand surgeons face a challenge in choosing a suitable surgical method to repair finger skin defects.

Methods: In this study, we designed a long elliptical flap based on a propeller perforator flap and located slightly toward the dorsal lateral aspect of the finger. The flap with a pedicle consisting of the dorsal perforator of the distal digital artery and dorsal digital artery perforator chain is rotated to cover a large wound on the distal end.

Repair techniques for short-distance peripheral nerve defects, including adjacent joint flexion to reduce the distance between the nerve stump defects, "nerve splint" suturing, and nerve sleeve connection, have some disadvantages. Therefore, we designed a repair technique involving intraoperative tension-free application of a nerve elongator and obtained good outcomes in the repair of short-distance peripheral nerve defects in a previous animal study. The present study compared the clinical outcomes between the use of this nerve elongator and performance of the conventional method in the repair of short-distance transection injuries in human elbows.

Objective: To analyze the clinical curative effect of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) combined with cervical nerve root compression and to explore the differences between CTS combined with cervical nerve root compression and simple CTS in the clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment.

Methods: From February 2004 to October 2010, 93 cases (120 sides) were selected among the patients (21 males and 72 females) adopted to our department and primarily diagnosed as CTS, of whom 29 had cervical nerve root compression. Neurolysis of peripheral nerve was conducted in the 93 cases, and the mean follow-up period was 16 months.
