This is the first study, to our knowledge, to examine whether self-reported symptoms on the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) and the Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS) were related to performance validity in Long COVID patients. Participants were 175 individuals diagnosed with Long COVID who completed four PVTs, the MFIS, and the PAI.

We present a case report of cutaneous histoplasmosis of the upper extremity due to direct inoculation in a renal transplant patient, presenting as myofasciitis. The patient initially had a salvaged upper extremity that was functional, but a persistent infection recurred with aggressive myofasciitis requiring a subsequent amputation.

Most studies of primary lung irradiation correlate the risk of pneumonitis with the volume of lung treated. It is proposed that the lung volume treated during tangential radiation of the intact breast may be calculated from a measurement of the central lung distance.

Postmastectomy chest wall radiation with electron-beam therapy: outcomes and complications at the University of Louisville.

Purpose: Postmastectomy chest wall radiation therapy using electron-beam therapy has been reported to increase lung radiation dose and the potential for pneumonitis. These reports describe treatment with varying energy electron beams prescribed to the breast/chest wall junction. Because the tissue at risk includes dermal lymphatics and subcutaneous tissues, low-energy electron beams may reduce lung radiation dose and the incidence of pneumonitis yet preserve good local control.

One hundred thirty-two of 397 consecutive percutaneous fine needle aspirations done at the University of Virginia between January, 1979, and December, 1984, for pulmonary lesions showed no evidence of cancer on cytological examination. We reviewed the presenting symptoms, radiographic findings on the day of needle aspiration, and the descriptive cytological terms to determine if it was possible to distinguish benign from malignant disease in these 132 patients. We found a specific benign diagnosis in only 16 (12%) of the 132 patients, and 1 of them ultimately was found to have cancer.

Computerized axial tomographic (CT) scans were performed on 16 patients over an 18-month period to determine which patients were candidates for removal of their esophageal tumors by blunt esophagectomy. Blunt esophagectomy was offered only to those patients whose tumors were confined to the esophageal wall on CT scan. Thirteen patients were able to undergo blunt esophagectomy, with only one complication, a tracheal injury, which was repaired.
