Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) remains a barrier to successful allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) outcomes. Contemporary comprehensive analyses of real-world clinical outcomes among patients who develop aGVHD post-HSCT are needed to better understand the unmet needs of this patient population. This multicenter, retrospective chart review describes treatment patterns and clinical outcomes among patients (≥18 years old) from Finland, Sweden, and France who developed grades II-IV aGVHD after their first HSCT (January 2016-June 2017).

Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe patient characteristics and quantify hospital stays and outpatient visits (H&OV) following diagnosis with moderate-to-severe acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) in Finland and Sweden.

Methods: A retrospective chart audit collected data from patient medical records of 3 specialized centers performing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT; Finland, n = 2; Sweden, n = 1). Eligible patients received allogeneic HSCT (January 1, 2016-June 30, 2017) from any donor source, were diagnosed with grade II-IV aGVHD (MAGIC or modified Glucksberg criteria) at any time from transplantation to 12 months before data collection, and were ≥ 18 years old at diagnosis.

Current endocrine treatment for advanced prostate cancer does not result in a complete ablation of adrenal androgens. Adrenal androgens can be metabolized by prostate cancer cells, which is one of the mechanisms associated with progression to castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Aldo-keto reductase family 1 member C3 (AKR1C3) is a steroidogenic enzyme that plays a crucial role in the conversion of adrenal androgen dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) into high-affinity ligands for the androgen receptor (testosterone [T] and dihydrotestosterone [DHT]).

Considerable levels of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) are found in prostate cancer (PCa) tissue after androgen deprivation therapy. Treatment of surviving cancer-initiating cells and the ability to metabolize steroids from precursors may be the keystones for the appearance of recurrent tumors. Background: Even though patients with prostate cancer commonly respond to endocrine treatment, in most cases the disease progresses to castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Our objective was to generate a novel cell line model representing the endocrine treatment naive prostate cancer for testing treatments that target the androgen receptor (AR) and androgen metabolism.

MicroRNAs (miRNA) are small, endogenously expressed noncoding RNAs that negatively regulate expression of protein-coding genes at the translational level. Accumulating evidence, such as aberrant expression of miRNAs, suggests that they are involved in the development of cancer. They have been identified in various tumor types, showing that different sets of miRNAs are usually deregulated in different cancers.
