Hepatic myelopathy (HM) is a rare complication of end-stage chronic liver disease, primarily presenting as symmetrical lower limb weakness that progresses to spastic paralysis without sensory or sphincter dysfunction. We report a case of decompensated cirrhosis associated with hepatitis B virus and HM. Critical-sized orbital bone defects can lead to significant maxillofacial deformities and even eye movement disorders. Light quality optimization is a cost-effective method for increasing leafy vegetable quality in plant factories. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that enable the precise modulation of light quality were used in this study to examine the effects of red-blue (RB), red-blue-green (RBG), red-blue-purple (RBP), and red-blue-far-red (RBF) lights on the growth, antioxidant capacity, and nitrogen metabolism of Chinese cabbage leaves, while white light served as the control (CK). Results showed that the chlorophyll, carotenoid, vitamin C, amino acid, total flavonoid, and antioxidant levels of Chinese cabbage were all significantly increased under RBP combined light treatment.

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are major metabolites produced by the gut microbiota through the fermentation of dietary fiber, and they have garnered significant attention due to their close association with host health. As important mediators between the gut microbiota and the host, SCFAs serve as energy substrates for intestinal epithelial cells and maintain homeostasis in host immune and energy metabolism by influencing host epigenetics, activating G protein-coupled receptors, and inhibiting pathogenic microbial infections. Manganese (Mn) induced learning and memory deficits through mechanisms that are not fully understood. In this study, we discovered that the demethylase FTO was significantly downregulated in hippocampal neurons in an experimental a mouse model of Mn exposure. This decreased expression of FTO was associated with Mn-induced learning and memory impairments, as well as the dysfunction in synaptic plasticity and damage to regional neurons.

This study investigated the effects of octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA)-starch-fatty acid (FA) interactions on the structural, digestibility and release characteristics of high amylose corn starch (HAS). FTIR and XRD analysis showed that the hydrophobic interaction between HAS and FA promoted the covalent binding between OSA and HAS. With the increasing of the FA chain length, the complex index, degree of substitution, R and relative crystallinity of OSA-HAS-FA increased first and then decreased, whereas the first-order rate coefficient and percentage of digested in infinite time showed an opposite trend.
