Purpose: To determine the influence of plaque and progesterone on periodontitis in pregnant women and their relationship with inflammatory mediators.
Materials And Methods: A longitudinal observational study of 60 pregnant women was undertaken in two observation periods. During the third trimester, plaque Index (PI), bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment level (CAL) were assessed, and the basal levels of progesterone, CRP, IL-6 and TNF-α in plasma were measured.
Background: This study assesses hormonal, inflammatory, and periodontal changes in pregnant women and postpartum in the absence of periodontal treatment, and seeks to determine any correlations among these parameters.
Methods: A longitudinal, observational study of 117 pregnant women (aged 23 to 42 years) was undertaken in a private gynecologic center between weeks 32 and 35 of pregnancy and 6 to 8 weeks after delivery. Levels of progesterone and C-reactive protein (CRP) in plasma were determined, as well as periodontal indices, including: 1) plaque index (PI); 2) bleeding on probing (BOP); 3) probing depth (PD); and 4) clinical attachment level (CAL).
Purpose: Cherubism is an uncommon fibro-osseous disorder of the jaws that presents with varying degrees of involvement and a tendency toward spontaneous remission. Lesions are characterized by replacement of bone with fibrovascular tissue containing abundant multinucleated giant cells. We attempted to study the relationships among the degree of cherubism, the radiographic extent of the jaw lesions, the histopathologic findings, and the clinical course of 7 patients.

The etiology and pathogenesis are not fully clear, though the clinical manifestations are the result of the accumulation and infiltration of these types of cells in organs and tissues. The present study reports 10 patients (6 boys and 4 girls) with chronic disseminated histiocytosis.

Previous studies of patients in our health district (1875-1994) showed a male/female ratio of 56/1. However, a retrospective study of all laryngeal carcinomas diagnosed in a recent year (June 1997-May 1998) showed an overall male/female ratio of 10/1.

These procedures were performed on a biplane X-ray system used in a large Spanish hospital for interventional cardiology procedures. Interventional procedures performed and radiation lesions produced on patients are described.

Cells were identified by an indirect immunoalkaline phosphatase technique using monoclonal antibodies (MoAb) reactive against different leukocyte subsets. ASF virus, detected by a direct immunoperoxidase method using swine immunoglobulin G (IgG) anti-ASF virus antigens, was not present in T helper or in T cytotoxic/suppressor lymphocytes, whereas it was detected in tissue macrophages that reacted with different MoAb (74-22-15, C4, A7, and F2).
