Background/purpose: There is a paucity of comprehensive information about posterior open bite (POB) in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) because of its rare prevalence. The purpose of this study was to investigate the etiologies, clinical characteristics, and treatment outcomes of patients with TMD presenting POB.
Materials And Methods: This study includes a careful review of medical records and imaging findings of 12 patients with TMD (seven men and five women, 50.
Objectives: To investigate the relationships among four different gustatory function tests in healthy young adults: electrogustometry (EGM), filter paper disk (FPD), whole-mouth, and taste strip methods. The relationships of the results of gustatory function tests with salivary flow rate were also investigated.
Methods: Sixty healthy young adults (30 men, 26.
Purpose: According to surgical dogma, patients who are recovering from general anesthesia after abdominal surgery should begin with a clear liquid diet, progress to a full liquid diet and then to a soft diet before taking regular meals. We propose patient-controlled nutrition (PCN), which is a novel concept in postoperative nutrition after abdominal surgery.
Methods: A retrospective pilot study was conducted to evaluate the feasibility and effects of PCN.
We investigate the dependence of various efficiencies in GaN-based vertical blue light-emitting diode (LED) structures on the thickness and doping concentration of the n-GaN layer by using numerical simulations. The electrical efficiency (EE) and the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) are found to increase as the thickness or doping concentration increases due to the improvement of current spreading. On the contrary, the light extraction efficiency (LEE) decreases with increasing doping concentration or n-GaN thickness by the free-carrier absorption.

Purpose: The aims of this study were to suggest a method of fabrication of the record base using a light-polymerized resin by applying the two-phase fabrication method for the improvement of the fit of the record base and to compare the degree of fit according to the separation site.
Materials And Methods: In the edentulous cast of maxilla, four test groups were considered. In the first, second, third, and fourth test groups (n = 12 in each group) the separation was done at 0, 5, 10, and 15 mm, respectively below the alveolar crest along the palatal plane.
