Circularly permuted group II introns (CP introns) consist of rearranged structural domains separated by two tethered exons, generating branched introns and circular exons via back-splicing. Structural and mechanistic understanding of circular RNA (circRNA) generation by CP introns remains elusive. We resolve cryo-electron microscopy structures of a natural CP intron in different states during back-splicing at a resolution of 2.

By utilizing the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, we investigate the optical response of the system, and observe that the design achieves dual tunable electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT)-like effect at terahertz frequencies. The EIT-like effect arises from the destructive interference between the grapheme-layer bright modes and the gold-layer dark mode.

Background: As a ubiquitous reversible epigenetic RNA modification, N6-methyladenosine (m6A) plays crucial regulatory roles in multiple biological pathways. However, its functional mechanisms in sex determination and differentiation during gonadal development of chicken embryos are not clear. Therefore, we established a transcriptome-wide m6A map in the female and male chicken left gonads of embryonic day 7 (E7) by methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (MeRIP-seq) to offer insight into the landscape of m6A methylation and investigate the post-transcriptional modification underlying gonadal differentiation.

After the third instar, larvae move from soil to standing trees and damage the plants with a wormhole. Although females disperse to lay eggs, larvae can accurately find eucalyptus in a mingled forest of eight species, which leads us to hypothesize that the larval olfactory system contributes to its host selection.

This study seeks to use a silk hydrogel to deliver more stem cells into a bone defect area and prolong the viability of these cells after implantation. Rat bone marrow stem cells were mingled with silk hydrogels at the concentrations of 1.

Background: Microalgae frequently grow in natural environment and long-term laboratory cultures in association with bacteria. Bacteria benefit the oxygen and extracellular substances generated by microalgae, and reimburse microalgae with carbon dioxide, vitamins and so on. Such synergistic relationship has aided in establishing an efficient microalga-bacterium co-culturing mode.

It has been shown that an elicited expression of acidic mammalian chitinase (AMCase) may be involved in the pathogenesis of asthma. Our recent study has demonstrated that the specific suppression of elevated AMCase leads to reduced eosinophilia and Th2-mediated immune responses in an ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized mouse model of allergic asthma.

However, most of these methods have different disadvantages and cannot restore the full active range of motion of the fingers.

Domestic chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus) fulfill various roles ranging from food and entertainment to religion and ornamentation. To survey its genetic diversity and trace the history of domestication, we investigated a total of 4938 mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) fragments including 2843 previously published and 2095 de novo units from 2044 domestic chickens and 51 red junglefowl (Gallus gallus). To obtain the highest possible level of molecular resolution, 50 representative samples were further selected for total mtDNA genome sequencing.

Phase I and II viral decay rates were similar in the 2 groups (P > .05).

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of autologous adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) transduced by adenovirus-mediated human transforming growth factor 2 (Ad-hTGF-beta2) gene in the repair of articular cartilage defects.
Methods: Rabbit ADSCs were obtained, cultured, and transfected with Ad-hTGF-beta2 containing human transforming growth factor (hTGF)-beta2. Three days later RT-PCR was used to detect the mRNA expression of hTGF-beta2 in the ADSCs, and ELISA was used to detect the protein expression of hTGF-beta2 in the supernatant.

In the black cicada (C. atrata Fabricius), the quiescent males are sensitive to stimulating sound-pulses of about 70 dB (SPL); the latent periods and amplitudes of compound action potentials of the auditory nerve (called "auditory nerve potential (AP)" for short) which are corresponding one by one to stimulating sound-pulses are (3.92 +/-0.
