Article Synopsis
  • Zhen-wu-tang (ZWT) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula used for kidney diseases, but there's limited understanding of its chemical makeup and metabolic pathways.
  • The study employed high-resolution liquid chromatography to identify 110 chemical components in ZWT, including amino acids and alkaloids, as well as 24 prototype components and 36 metabolites in rat plasma.
  • Key findings show that certain bioactive components were found in both rat plasma and kidney tissue, with metabolic processes primarily involving various biochemical reactions, laying the groundwork for future research on ZWT's pharmacological effects.

Dysfunction of mesangial cells plays a significant role in the glomerular lesions and is implicated in the pathophysiology of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Macrophages infiltration is the main pathological feature of DN, which can ultimately lead to renal inflammation. Recent studies suggest that the crosstalk between kidney resident cells and inflammatory cells influences the development of DN, and that controlling this crosstalk may help treat DN.
