Lankamycin, a macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces rochei 7434AN4, exhibits a moderate antimicrobial activity and acts as a synergistic pair with carbocyclic antibiotic lankacidin C by binding to the ribosome exit tunnel. Its biosynthetic gene (lkm) cluster (orf24-orf53) is located on the largest plasmid pSLA2-L (210,614 bp). Our group possesses a variety of lankamycin derivatives and macrolide-modification enzymes including P450 enzymes and glycosyltransferases, which may lead to expand the chemical library of bioactive macrolides.

Phosphorus is one of the main pollutants that cause water pollution, and phosphorus is a one-way cycle in the environment, and phosphorus resources will face exhaustion in the next 100 years. Therefore, the recovery and reuse of phosphorus resources have become very important. This article presents a study concerning the removal of phosphate from an aqueous solution by using a calcium-rich biochar prepared by pyrolysis of crab shells.

Phosphate adsorption using metal-modified biochar has awakened much attention and triggered extensive research. In this study, the effect of lanthanum (La)-modified sludge using impregnation-co-precipitation was used for phosphate adsorption. Consequently, La-coated biochar at a pyrolysis temperature of 600 °C had the highest phosphate adsorption and the lowest heavy metal leaching potential.

Two novel cycloalkoxy silane compounds (ED1 and ED2) were synthesized and used as the external electron donors (EEDs) in Ziegler⁻Natta catalysts with diethyl 2,3-diisopropylsuccinate as internal electron donor. The results indicated that the Ziegler⁻Natta catalysts using ED1 and ED2 as EEDs had high catalytic activities and good stereoselectivities. The melt flow rate (MFR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) results revealed that the obtained polypropylene has higher MFR and lower average molecular weights than the commercial EED cyclohexyl methyl dimethoxysilane.
