Objective: Imperfect fitting of the navigation template leads to prolonged surgery time and increased blood loss. These problems have not been effectively addressed in previous research. This study explores the efficacy of a novel 5-point positioning point-contact pedicle navigation template in complex pedicle situations in scoliosis.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aims to evaluate an artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to accurately measure Cobb angles and classify scoliosis in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients, highlighting its potential to improve clinical management.
  • - The AI system uses convolutional neural networks to quickly and accurately identify vertebral boundaries and measure angles, completing tasks in just 0.2 seconds compared to an average of 23.6 minutes for human surgeons.
  • - Results show that the AI system has a high reliability for classifying scoliosis, with a strong correlation to senior surgeons' measurements, suggesting it could serve as a valuable tool in spinal surgery.

Synthetic insecticides heavily applied to manage agricultural pests are highly hazardous to the environment and non-target organisms. Their overuse through repeated treatments in smallholder farming communities is frequent. Botanical biopesticides are ideal for sustainable pest management in agricultural environments by keeping synthetic insecticide use at a minimum.

Ovum pick up and in vitro embryo production (OPU-IVEP) is an essential technique in the dairy industry. The production efficiency of OPU-IVEP is significantly influenced by various factors, and phenotypic and genetic characteristics are highly variable in different populations. The objectives of this study were (1) to reveal the phenotypic characteristics, including population distribution, and impacts of donor age and month on in vitro embryo production and (2) to estimate genetic parameters for five in vitro embryo production traits in Chinese Holstein cattle.

Running speed and camouflage are associated with the foraging and anti-predator abilities of animals. The toad-headed lizard, , has evolved a darker dorsal color in melanistic habitats and maintained a lighter color in adjacent, non-melanistic habitats. We test the hypothesis that lizards have weaker running speed on well-matching backgrounds than on less matching backgrounds.

Background: Characterizing the impacts of postoperative opioid use on total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients may help optimize the pain management after TKA. The aim of the study is to examine the prevalence and risk factors for opioid use with an enhanced-recovery programme after primary TKA.

Methods: We identified 361 patients undergoing TKA, and separated those on the basis of whether to receive opioid use after surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how body mass index (BMI) influences blood loss and transfusion rates in patients undergoing simultaneous bilateral total hip arthroplasty (SBTHA).
  • It involved 344 patients categorized into normal, overweight, and obese groups, assessing various outcomes like total blood loss, transfusion rates, and complications.
  • Results showed that while total blood loss increased with higher BMI, obese and overweight patients had lower transfusion needs compared to normal-weight patients, and there were no significant differences in complication rates among the groups.

Background: Postoperative moderate and severe anemia (PMSA) has been a serious perioperative complication in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). However, the ideal cutoff values to predict PMSA is still undetermined. The aim of this study was (1) to identify the risk factors associated with PMSA and (2) to establish the cutoff values of preoperative hemoglobin (HB) associated with increased PMSA in primary TKA.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safty of posterior popliteal fossa S-shaped incision with double-window approach for the treatment of posterior column of tibial plateau fractures.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was made on the clinical data of 13 patients with complex tibial plateau fractures involving both posteromedial and posterolateral columns between May 2015 and July 2017. There were 9 males and 4 females, aged 33-64 years (mean, 46.

So far, ascoviruses have only been identified from Lepidoptera host insects and their transmission vectors-endoparasitic wasps. Here, we reported the first finding of a complete novel ascovirus genome from a Diptera insect, Dasineura jujubifolia. Initially, sequence fragments with homology to ascoviruses were incidentally identified during metagenomic sequencing of the mitochondria of D.

The codling moth Cydia pomonella, a major invasive pest of pome fruit, has spread around the globe in the last half century. We generated a chromosome-level scaffold assembly including the Z chromosome and a portion of the W chromosome. This assembly reveals the duplication of an olfactory receptor gene (OR3), which we demonstrate enhances the ability of C.

Hydrogels for biomedical applications were limited toward bone tissue engineering due to the poor mechanical performance. Tough hydrogels with strong and elastic features have received extensive attention, the application of which, however, was limited by their degradation. The present study introduced an approach to enhance mechanical properties of hydrogel while ensuring its degradation.

Objective: To objectively evaluate the clinical efficacy, safety and technical operating standard of percutem clamp fixation (PCCF), an operation designed by imitating bone setting method of TCM, in treating unstable tibiofibular fracture (UTF).

Methods: A prospective controlled multicentre clinical study was carried out on 200 patients with UTF, they were assigned to the treated group (99 cases) treated with PCCF and the control group (101 cases) treated with unilateral multifunctional external fixator (UMFEF).

Results: PCCF showed better effects than UMFEF in reducing the time of fixing operation and healing time; and the immediate effect after removing the fixating apparatus and long-term efficacy as well as safety in the treated group were also superior to those in the control group (P < 0.
