Background: Testicular cancer is fairly rare but can affect fertility in adult males. Leucine-rich repeats- and WD repeat domain-containing protein 1 (LRWD1) is a sperm-specific marker that mainly affects sperm motility in reproduction. Our previous study demonstrated the impact of LRWD1 on testicular cancer development; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • Rhabdomyomas are rare, non-cancerous muscle tumors, especially uncommon in the head and neck, with laryngeal rhabdomyomas being particularly scarce.
  • A 32-year-old woman exhibited shortness of breath due to a pneumothorax, during which a soft tissue tumor in her larynx was discovered via chest CT, leading to a biopsy that confirmed it as a laryngeal rhabdomyoma.
  • Despite initial PET/CT suggesting a possibility of a malignant tumor, after successful surgery to remove the tumor, the patient showed no signs of recurrence for 5 years.

Leucine-rich repeats and WD repeat domain-containing protein 1 (LRWD1) is implicated in the regulation of signal transduction, transcription, RNA processing and tumor development. However, LRWD1 transcriptional regulation is not fully understood. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between LRWD1 expression and reactive oxygen species (ROS) level in human embryonal carcinoma cell line, NT2/D1 cells, which will help in understanding the transcriptional regulatory role of ROS in cells.
