Article Synopsis
  • - The novel SARS-CoV-2 is responsible for COVID-19, impacting over 17 million people globally, prompting the need for updated diagnosis and treatment guidelines for clinicians.
  • - A working group of experts developed evidence-based recommendations by reviewing literature to address 29 key management questions related to chemoprophylaxis, diagnosis, treatments, and discharge management of COVID-19.
  • - They issued 34 statements, including 6 strong recommendations, 14 weak recommendations, 3 weak recommendations against, and 11 ungraded consensus statements, covering various aspects such as diagnostic methods and potential treatments.

Background: Novel oral anticoagulants, including direct factor Xa inhibitors and direct factor IIa inhibitors, have been used to prevent stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) for a decade. In this study, the efficacy and safety of the novel oral anticoagulants were assessed in AF patients.

Methods: No language restrictions were applied.

Background: Many epidemiological studies have found a positive association between periodontal disease (PD) and risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but this association is varied and even contradictory among studies. We performed a meta-analysis to ascertain the relationship between PD and COPD.

Methods: PubMed and Embase database were searched up to January 10, 2012, for relevant observational studies on the association between PD and risk of COPD.

Aims: Investigation of the response of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to vascular mechanical forces is very important in the field of cardiovascular intervention. Ser/Thr-protein kinase Pim-1 is a novel transducer of cell survival and the cell cycle that promotes signals in the hematopoietic cell system. Current studies aim to foster an understanding of Pim-1 expression and regulation in MSCs in response to different durations and strengths of laminar shear stress (SS) and to investigate the role of Pim-1 in SS-induced cell proliferation.

Purpose: Endothelial cell migration and survival might be called "major angiogenic responses". Tumor conditioned medium (CM) has been widely used to stimulate endothelial cells to form capillary-like structures in angiogenesis models in vitro. However, the molecular events triggered by tumor CM are not fully understood.

Objective: To investigate the effect of human angiotensin II (AngII) type 1 receptor (AT(1)R) antisense cDNA (ahAT(1)) on migration, proliferation, and apoptosis of cultured human pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMC).

Methods: Two recombinant adenoviral vectors, AdCMVahAT(1) containing full length antisense cDNA targeting to human AT(1)R mRNA, and AdCMVLacZ containing LacZ, were constructed by orientation clone technology and homologous recombination. The PASMC was divided into 3 groups (DMEM, AdCMVLacZ, AdCMVahAT(1)) and different interventions were given to different groups.
