Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of Ubiquitin-Specific Peptidase 22 (USP22) on the inflammatory response mediated by BV-2 mouse microglia and explore the role of the PU box binding protein 1 (PU.1)/NOD-, LRR- and pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome in the USP22-induced polarization of BV-2 cells.
Methods: The BV-2 mouse microglia line was cultured in vitro, and plasmid and siRNA transfection was performed to overexpress or knockdown USP22.

Methods: A total of 100 elderly patients with esophageal cancer seen in the Department of Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery, Renmin Hospital, Hubei University of Medicine, from June 2014 to June 2016 were enrolled and randomly divided into two groups, including a control group (50 patients) with a conventional open surgical scheme and an observation group (50 patients) with a thoracolaparoscopic esophagectomy surgical scheme. The operation time, the amount of bleeding during the operation, the incision length, the number of lymph nodes dissected, the hospitalization time, the HAMA scores and HAMD scores before and after the operation, the PSQI scores, SF-36 scores and levels of PCT, CRP and IL-6 after the operation, the recurrence and metastasis rates and the mortality at follow-up and the incidence of related complications of both groups were compared.
Monascus species are traditionally used for food preservation. This study used the disc diffusion method to verify the antifungal activity of protein extracted from Monascus pilosus BCRC38072 against 15 fungal pathogens. An antifungal protein, designated as MAFP1, was successfully purified and confirmed through N-terminal sequencing.

Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a worldwide health problem causing serious complications, such as liver cirrhosis and hepatoma. Alpha interferon (IFN-alpha) or its polyethylene glycol-modified form combined with ribavirin is the only recommended therapy. However, an alternative therapy is needed due to the unsatisfactory cure rate of the IFN-based therapy.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) encodes a viral protease, nonstructural (NS)3/4A, that is critical for virus maturation. Although NS3/4A has emerged as a promising target for anti-HCV drug discovery, no anti-HCV therapy has succeeded yet based on inhibition of NS3/4A. We have previously shown that EG(delta4AB)SEAP, a reporter consisting of enhanced green fluorescent protein (EG), the NS3-NS4A protease decapeptide recognition sequence (delta4AB), and secreted alkaline phosphatase (SEAP), is an efficient reporter for reflecting NS3/4A proteolytic activity inside cells.
