Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is a significant public health problem in Hubei Province, China, where a novel strain of orthohantavirus, HV004, was reported in 2012. However, no systematic study has investigated the prevalence and variation of orthohantavirus in rodents and humans.
