FTase inhibitors constitute a new class of potential cancer therapeutics, especially in colorectal cancer where K-ras-selective mutations exist and have a role in tumorigenesis. The synthesis and biological evaluation of two nonpeptidic molecules (13 and 16) designed on the basis of a zinc chelator imidazole linked to two aromatic fragments able to fit in the "exit groove" and in the "A2 binding site" of FTase are described. These molecules are characterized respectively by a flexible phenylmethyl chain and a more constrained scaffold so as to evaluate their respective influences on site recognition.

Thirty-day-old cells were transferred into liquid medium with the inoculum density of 100 g/L cells. The results indicate that the optimal concentration of phosphate in medium for cell growth of protocorm-like bodies of Dendrobium huoshanense was 2.

The single crystalline nature of the ITO octahedrons was revealed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The formation of ITO octahedrons, which are bounded by eight {111} facets, is due to the lowest surface energy of the {111} facet.

Objective: To explore the relationship between the expressions of HER-2/neu, nm23 protein and local invasion and lymp node metastasis of LSCC.
Method: The expression of HER-2/neu, nm23 protein was detected by immunohistochemical technique in 56 patients with human LSCC.
Result: The positive expression rate of HER-2/neu protein in LSCC was not correlated with histological grade (P > 0.
Homozygous deletions or loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at human chromosome band 3p12 are consistent features of lung and other malignancies, suggesting the presence of a tumor suppressor gene(s) (TSG) at this location. Only one gene has been cloned thus far from the overlapping region deleted in lung and breast cancer cell lines U2020, NCI H2198, and HCC38. It is DUTT1 (Deleted in U Twenty Twenty), also known as ROBO1, FLJ21882, and SAX3, according to HUGO.

At present, the use of conventional therapies, such as chemo/radio therapy is limited, and only therapies that are focused on utilizing the patient's immune response to combat against the disease appear to be the most reliable and promising. Two decades ago, cytokines were discovered to be able to activate the immune systems and mount an anti-tumour response.

It is a challenging problem for the plastic surgeon to perform adequate reconstruction of the postenucleation and radiated orbit of patient with retinoblastoma. Rebuilding of the orbital structure, reconstruction of the eye socket, and restoration of periorbital volume are required in this kind of orbital reconstruction. In this study, we reviewed 12 patients with hypoplastic orbital deformities who underwent orbital osteotomy and free flap transfer.

Lentiviral vectors have shown promises for efficient gene transfer to dividing as well as nondividing cells. In this study, we explored lentiviral vector-mediated, the entire mTRP-2 gene transfer and expression in dendritic cells (DCs). Adoptive transfer of DCs-expressing mTRP-2 (DC-HR'CmT2) into C57BL/6 mouse was also assessed.

Objective: To explore the induction and control effect of Fas/FasL system in the occurrence and evolution of nasal polyps tissue.
Method: Nasal polyps samples of 40 cases and 5 healthy adults were examined for the genic expressions of factors Fas and FasL by using the method of reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).
Result: The results indicated that the expressions of FasL in nasal polyps was high, and the expressions of Fas was low.

In this paper, the volatiles from cowpea and kidney bean, the main host plants of American leafminer Liriomyza sativae, were collected and extracted by a self-designed device and solid phase microextraction (SPME) technique, and analyzed by GC-MS. The results showed that the volatiles from the two beans had the same components mainly consisted of 2-hexenal, 3-Hexen-1-ol, 2-Hexen-1-ol, 1-Octen-3-ol, 3-Hexenol acetate, alpha-Ionone and beta-Ionone. The lure made of the seven components was attractive to L.

Radiosyntheses were accomplished by the reaction of fluorine-18-labeled intermediate with 8-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrochromeno[3,4-c]pyridin-5-one (1) followed by HPLC purification.

Objective: To introduce an effective method for reconstruction of hypoplastic orbit caused by eradiation therapy.
Methods: The orbital reestablishment was carried out by using the orbital ostectomy to enlarge the orbital cavity and a flap transferring for the socket reconstruction and the repair of the concave deformity around the orbit.
Results: Twelve treated patients demonstrated the satisfactory improvement.
A direct quantitative method is presented that is based upon the use of multiple headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) to monitor biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) released from a living leaf of Pelargonium hortorum in situ. Seventeen BVOCs were detected by GC-MS after a single SPME extraction using a CAR/DVB/PDMS fibre. An internal standard was employed to determine the absolute amounts of seven terpenoid compounds released from a P.

Our results showed that NaPaC inhibited the proliferation of MDA-MB-231 cells and MCF-7 cells in a dose-dependent manner. NaPaC was 20-fold more active on highly invasive MDA-MB-231 cells than the NaPa parental molecule.

METHODS: Lentiviral vectors encoding a marker gene were packaged and supernatants concentrated. The number of viable vector particles was determined by in vitro transduction and fluorescent microscopy and FACs analyses.
