Recent studies have revealed that long non-coding RNAs participate in all steps of cancer initiation and progression by regulating protein-coding genes at the epigenetic, transcriptional, and post-transcriptional levels. Long non-coding RNAs are in turn regulated by other genes, forming a complex regulatory network. The regulation networks between the p53 tumor suppressor and these RNAs in nasopharyngeal carcinoma remains unclear.

However, quantitative-binding data for these important virus-host interactions are lacking. Here, we report on the intrinsic (per binding site) affinities of HBGA oligosaccharides for the huNoV VA387 virus-like particles (VLPs) and the associated subviral P particles measured using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.

TV is genetically closely related to the genus Norovirus and recognizes the histo-blood group antigens (HBGAs), similarly to human noroviruses (NoVs), making it a valuable surrogate for human NoVs. However, the precise structures of HBGAs recognized by TV remain elusive.

The present study aimed to acquire a series of quantitative perfusion parameters from liver computed tomography (CT) with a 320-slice scanner in patients with small hepatocellular carcinoma (sHCC) and study its efficacy in identifying mVI.
Materials And Methods: Fifty-six patients who underwent hepatic resection for sHCC (≤3 cm) were preoperatively examined with a 320-detector row CT scanner.
We discuss the problem of properly defining treatment superiority through the specification of hypotheses in clinical trials. The need to precisely define the notion of superiority in a one-sided hypothesis test problem has been well recognized by many authors. Ideally designed null and alternative hypotheses should correspond to a partition of all possible scenarios of underlying true probability models P={P(ω):ω∈Ω} such that the alternative hypothesis Ha={P(ω):ω∈Ωa} can be inferred upon the rejection of null hypothesis Ho={P(ω):ω∈Ω(o)} However, in many cases, tests are carried out and recommendations are made without a precise definition of superiority or a specification of alternative hypothesis.

We previously reported that LTF was downregulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and could suppress NPC cell proliferation. However, the relevance of the relationship between LTF expression and NPC clinical outcome has not been reported.

In the present study, we used a large-scale sample of 1015 tissue cores to detect SPLUNC1 expression and its association with patient prognosis. SPLUNC1 expression was reduced in NPC samples compared to nontumor nasopharyngeal epithelium tissues.

We report the first experimental evidence that sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipids (gangliosides) are also ligands for human NoVs. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry-based carbohydrate binding measurements performed on assemblies (P dimer, P particle, and virus-like particle) of recombinant viral capsid proteins of two NoV strains, VA387 (GII.

To identify novel biomarkers for the early detection of NPC patients, 2D-DIGE combined with MALDI-TOF-MS analysis was performed to identify differentially expressed proteins in the carcinogenesis and progression of NPC using LCM-purified normal nasopharyngeal epithelial tissues and various stages of NPC biopsies. As a result, 26 differentially expressed proteins were identified, of which two proteins with sharp expressional changes in the carcinogenic process, ENO1 and CYPA, were validated by western blot analysis and identified as critical seed proteins in the functional network.

We reported previously a simple strategy for construction of linear and network polymers through the dimerization feature of viral proteins for vaccine development. In this study, technologies were developed to produce more sophisticated polyvalent complexes through both the dimerization and oligomerization natures of viral antigens.

Hydrogels are highly preferred in soft tissue engineering because they recapitulate the hydrated extracellular matrix. Naturally derived polysaccharides, like pullulan and dextran, are attractive materials with which to form hydrophilic polymeric networks due to their non-immunogenic and non-antigenic properties. However, their inherent hydrophilicity prevents adherent cell growth.

Methods: We conducted a randomized placebo-controlled trial involving 110 patients with KOA who met the inclusion criteria. These patients randomly received either active moxibustion (n = 55) or sham moxibustion control (n = 55) at acupoints Dubi (ST 35), extra-point Neixiyan (EX-LE 4), and an Ashi (tender) point three times a week for 6 weeks.
Unlabelled: Noroviruses (NoVs) are the leading cause of nonbacterial acute gastroenteritis worldwide in people of all ages. The P particle is a novel vaccine candidate derived from the protruding (P) domain of the NoV VP1 capsid protein. This study utilized the neonatal gnotobiotic pig model to evaluate the protective efficacies of primary infection, P particles, and virus-like particles (VLPs) against NoV infection and disease and the T cell responses to these treatments.

Moreover, glycolysis is uncoupled from the mitochondrial tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) in cancer cells. Consequently, the majority of glycolysis-derived pyruvate is diverted to lactate fermentation and kept away from mitochondrial oxidative metabolism.
