Three-dimensional (3D) printing has become an integral part of orthognathic surgery. However, there is a lack of studies evaluating accuracy of orthognathic surgical splints fabricated from subtractive milling versus additive 3D printing. The primary aim of this in-vitro study was to compare the differences in trueness between milled and 3D-printed splints, while the secondary aim was to compare the differences in clinical fit of these splints.

Article Synopsis
  • * Over 90% recognized that high salt intake poses health risks, yet only about one-third connected it to strokes and heart failure; differences in KAP were noted among ethnicities, particularly with Indians showing better practices.
  • * Findings highlight the need for tailored educational strategies to enhance understanding of salt labeling and reduce high blood pressure, emphasizing the importance of culturally specific approaches.

Background: PET scan stands as a valuable diagnostic tool in nuclear medicine, enabling the observation of metabolic and physiological changes at a molecular level. However, PET scans have a number of drawbacks, such as poor spatial resolution, noisy images, scattered radiation, artifacts, and radiation exposure. These challenges demonstrate the need for optimization in image processing techniques.

Purpose: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate how the utilization of virtual surgical planning (VSP) and the epidemiological profile of patients undergoing orthognathic surgery (OGS) have changed in the past decade.

Methods: The records of patients who had undergone orthognathic surgery at a national dental hospital were reviewed. Trends in VSP, epidemiological data, presentation of dentofacial deformity, and management details were recorded.

Most studies reporting prevalence of obesity use actual weight and height measurements. Self-reported weight and height have been used in epidemiological studies as they have been shown to be reliable, convenient, and inexpensive alternatives to actual measurements. However, the accuracy of self-reported weight and height might vary in different regions because of the difference in health awareness and social influences.

Aim: The aim of the present prospective proof-of-concept study was to evaluate the accuracy of 3D orthognathic surgical planning and CAD/CAM splints by comparing planned with actual postoperative outcomes.

Materials And Methods: Ten patients scheduled for bimaxillary orthognathic surgery to correct a skeletal Class III dentofacial deformity were recruited. All subjects had CBCT scans taken not more than 2 months preoperatively and within the 1-week postoperative period.

Objectives: The primary aim of this study was to assess the linear and geometric accuracy of 3-dimensional (3D) printed tooth replicas when compared to the actual tooth. The secondary aims were to compare the accuracy of three different 3D printers and to evaluate dimensional changes of tooth replicas after sterilization.

Methods: A sample of 16 teeth were selected from recruited patients.

Objectives: This study aims to determine the validity of a 3D planning software in predicting the soft tissue outcome of Chinese patients undergoing orthognathic surgery for correction of Skeletal III dentofacial deformity.

Methods: Pre- and post-operative 3D facial stereophotogrammetric scans and cone beam computed tomography were taken for 10 Chinese patients who had underwent orthognathic surgery. The pre-operative 3D facial scan was integrated with the pre-operative CBCT using the ProPlan CMF software.

Infection, the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms and viruses, causes reactive inflammation mediated by endogenous signals, with influx of leucocytes with distinct properties and capable of mounting a cellular or antibody response. Different forms of inflammation may also occur in response to tumours, in allergy and autoimmune disorders. Pneumonia, respiratory tract infection and septic shock for instance can arise as serious complications of the Covid-19 virus.

Tumour-induced osteomalacia is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome that manifests as chronic hypophosphataemia, non-specific bone pain and muscle weakness. It is generally caused by phosphaturic mesenchymal tumour (PMT), which is uncommonly associated with synchronous tumours. However, diagnosis is often delayed for several years due to the rarity, indolent growing nature and non-specific symptoms of the disease, often resulting in an overlook by clinicians during assessments.

Despite hypertension remaining the leading cause of death worldwide, awareness of hypertension and its control rate is still suboptimal in Malaysia. This study aims to determine the proportion of both diagnosed and undiagnosed hypertension, awareness and its control rate during the yearly May Measurement Month (MMM) campaign that has been coordinated by the International Society of Hypertension. Participants aged ≥18 years were recruited at various screening sites namely universities, health facilities, shopping malls, and other sites.

This study aimed to examine the relationship of adherence with blood pressure (BP) control and its associated factors in hypertensive patients. This cross-sectional nationwide BP screening study was conducted in Malaysia from May to October 2018. Participants with self-declared hypertension completed the Hill-Bone Compliance to High Blood Pressure Therapy Scale (Hill-Bone CHBPTS) which assesses three important domains of patient behavior to hypertension management namely medication taking, appointment keeping and reduced salt intake.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence increases yearly, and is three to four times higher in developed countries compared to developing countries. The well-known risk factors have been attributed to low physical activity, overweight, obesity, dietary consumption including excessive consumption of red processed meats, alcohol, and low dietary fiber content. There is growing evidence of the interplay between diet and gut microbiota in CRC carcinogenesis.

Recent case reports and series have demonstrated the usefulness of Ga/F-PSMA PET/CT in restaging recurrent renal cancer after nephrectomy. We presented a case of a patient with renal mass who had undergone both F-FDG and Ga-PSMA PET/CT for diagnosis and staging. Concordant tracer uptake in the primary tumor and metastatic lesions was demonstrated by both radiotracers.

Aim: To determine the prevalence of dental anomalies and its association with gender.

Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using radiographs, photographs and clinical records of patients who attended the Department of Orthodontics at the National Dental Centre Singapore. Records of 2508 ethnic Chinese orthodontic patients aged 14-25 years were examined for the prevalence of dental anomalies in the permanent dentition, excluding third molars.

The effects of the charged ion species 4He, 12C and 20Ne on glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) T98G, U87 and LN18 cell lines were compared with the effects of 200 kVp X-rays (1.7 keV/μm). These cell lines have different genetic profiles.

Orthodontic traction of an impacted dilacerated maxillary central incisor is clinically challenging and often results in a long treatment duration. A case of an unusual dilacerated central incisor with a 90° crown-root angulation and palatally displaced crown is presented herein. Using a single stage open window exposure of the crown on the palatal aspect with light orthodontic traction force, the impacted dilacerated central incisor crown was successfully positioned in alignment with the contralateral incisor.

Glioblastoma (GBM), a Grade IV brain tumour, is a well-known radioresistant cancer. To investigate one of the causes of radioresistance, we studied the capacity for potential lethal damage repair (PLDR) of three altered strains of GBM: T98G, U87 and LN18, irradiated with various ions and various levels of linear energy transfer (LET). The GBM cells were exposed to 12C and 28Si ion beams with LETs of 55, 100 and 200 keV/μm, and with X-ray beams of 1.

Tumor cell internalization of targeting agents is of interest, since internalization influences the local retention time of a radionuclide and thereby imaging quality in PET and SPECT and effects of radionuclide therapy. In cases where nuclear methods are not applicable at the cellular level, quantitative fluorescent techniques are useful as described in this article. Two fluorescence-based methods to study cellular internalization were applied: the CypHer and the Alexa488-quenching methods, both utilized in fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry.
