Here, we designed a double-solvent/host-guest redox combined strategy to construct Cu sites in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for the first time. As a proof of concept, a representative MOF MIL-100(Fe) with tunable valence states of cations was employed as the host. The combined strategy realizes selective introduction of Cu precursors to the interior pores of MIL-100(Fe), remarkably minimizing the aggregation of Cu and subsequently formed Cu species.

In order to reduce the harmful constituents in cigarette smoke, two hierarchical composites were synthesized. Based on, zeolites HZSM-5 or NaY fragments were introduced into the synthetic system of mesoporous silica SBA-15 or MCM-41 and assembled with the mesoporous materials. These porous composites combine the advantages of micro- and mesoporous materials, and exhibit higher effects than activated carbon on reducing tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNA) and some vapor phase compounds in smoke.

On the basis of a study of the adsorption of zeolite and mesoporous silica, we attempted to create a hierarchical structure in the new nitrosamines trapper. Thus, mesoporous HZSM-5 zeolite was fabricated through impregnating a structure-directing agent into the as-synthesized MCM-41 followed by dry-gel conversion to transform amorphous silica to zeolite crystal. The texture of mesoporous ZSM-5 was tailored by adjusting the Si/Al ratio in the MCM-41 source and the thermal treatment time.

A new strategy to synthesize a highly efficient CO(2) capturer by incorporating tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA) into as-synthesized MCM-41 (AM) is reported. The amine guest can be distributed in the micelle of the support, forming a web within the mesopore to trap CO(2) molecules and resulting in a high adsorption capacity for CO(2) up to 237 mg g(-1). Four samples of the as-synthesized MCM-41 with a different amount or type of surfactant are employed as supports to investigate the influence of micelles on the CO(2) adsorption, and the spokelike structure of the micelle in the channel of the support is proven to be essential to the distribution of guest amine.

Copper oxide was incorporated into MCM-41 by a one-pot synthesis under acidic conditions to prepare a new mesoporous nitrosamines trap for protection of the environment. The resulting composites were characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, and H2 temperature-programmed reduction techniques, and their adsorption capabilities were assessed in the gaseous adsorption of N-nitrosopyrrolidine (NPYR). The adsorption isotherms were consistent with the Freundlich equation.
