Description of patients excluded for Mohs surgery after pre-surgical evaluation: data from the Regesmohs Spanish registry.

Background: Regesmohs registry is a nationwide registry including patients evaluated for Mohs surgery in 17 Spanish centres since July 2013. Given that Mohs surgery is the therapy with best results for high risk basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and other skin tumours, we wanted to describe the reasons that lead to some patients being excluded from this therapy and the alternative treatments that they received. These data may be useful to avoid excluding patients for Mohs surgery use, to estimate the healthcare demand of these patients and the demand for Hedgehog inhibitors therapy in this group.

Strategies for Teaching Professional Ethics to IT Engineering Degree Students and Evaluating the Result.

This paper presents an experience in developing professional ethics by an approach that integrates knowledge, teaching methodologies and assessment coherently. It has been implemented for students in both the Software Engineering and Computer Engineering degree programs of the Technical University of Madrid, in which professional ethics is studied as a part of a required course. Our contribution of this paper is a model for formative assessment that clarifies the learning goals, enhances the results, simplifies the scoring and can be replicated in other contexts.

[Photodynamic therapy for actinic cheilitis].

Actinic cheilitis is a subtype of actinic keratosis that mainly affects the lower lip and has a higher risk of malignant transformation. Its location on the labial mucosa influences the therapeutic approach. Vermilionectomy requires local or general anesthetic and is associated with a risk of an unsightly scar, and the treatment with 5-fluorouracil or imiquimod lasts for several weeks and the inflammatory reaction can be very intense.

Lipschütz [corrected] ulcers--four cases.

A distinctive clinical entity of acute genital ulcers occurring in adolescents, with nonvenereal infectious etiology was described by Lipschütz in 1913. We describe four puberal virgin girls who developed fever and painful genital ulcers. The main causes infectious and noninfectious of ulceration were rejected.

[Atypical presentation of syringocystoadenoma papilliferum].

Syringocystoadenoma papilliferum is benign adnexal tumor derived from the sweat glands that is located in the head and neck in 70-80% of patients, and commonly presents as a papule or a solitary nodule. We report a case of syringocystoadenoma papilliferum with an atypical presentation given its location in the thigh and the peculiar histologic features, unrepresentative of this entity.

[Cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis and renal carcinoma].

The association between leukocytoclastic vasculitis and solid tumors like renal carcinoma has been infrequently described. We present the case of a 76-year-old woman who began with skin lesions on the legs that were clinically and histologically diagnosed as leukocytoclastic vasculitis. During analysis of the symptoms, she was diagnosed with renal carcinoma.
