We describe a case of a 35-year-old patient with recurrent non-resectable pleural mesothelioma cT4N0M0 with a confirmed malignant pericardial effusion, threatening for cardiac tamponade. We performed and described our experience of intrapericardial photodynamic therapy which was well tolerated and with a good survival result. After 12 months of follow-up our patient showed no signs of pericardial effusion and in stable condition, keeping high level of quality of life.

The hardware was adequate for the purposes of studying the peripheral plasma in the tokamak. The multichannel DBS system is based on duplication of a dual homodyne detection circuit for four incident Ka-band frequencies.

Water from this spot was sampled for investigation in the present study. Microscopic analysis revealed that the suspended matter in the sample was composed of clumps of filaments, vegetative cells, akinetes and heterocysts that formed short filaments and solitary cells.

The hardware of the diagnostic system based on a 256-channel tangential matrix array and a 24-channel linear array is described. The algorithm for 2D tomographic reconstruction of plasma emissivity is presented.

The main feature of DICT is that the result of tomographic reconstruction is a 3D DIC image. This image is described by partial derivative of 3D refractive index distribution in one direction.

Different types of lasers for intracorporeal lithotripsy have different mechanisms of stone fragmentation depending on the type of laser and its radiation parameters. The latest researches showed that new and promising laser modalities for lithotripsy are devices based on thulium (Tm) doped fiber laser, which can not only increase by several times the speed of the of stone fragmentation, but also minimizes the risks of surgical complications, due to the peculiarities of interaction between radiation and biological tissues.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA new approach to the problem of measuring the phase shift from variances of interferogram differences based on Fourier domain analysis is proposed. It is shown that the use of true variance of the interferogram differences and spatial apodization of interferograms increases the accuracy of the phase shift of the measurement. Numerical simulations and experiments are presented.

The plasma membrane dose-dependent damage of UV(B)-irradiated mouse peritoneal macrophages was investigated using laser interference microscopy (LIM). LIM is a method which allows one to estimate morphological and functional parameters of a cell without dyeing or introduction of other substances which can affect the cell condition. This makes it possible to reduce and accelerate the procedure of counting the damaged cells as compared with the methods using different dyes.

In 2002 - 2008 more than 1000 patients with lower limb varicose veins were treated with endovenous laser coagulation (EVLC) of subcutaneous and perforating veins in the Therapeutic Rehabilitation Center. Usually we used laser wavelength between 915 and 980 nm; but recently 1,560-nm laser, which physical properties are quite different, was used for 43 patients, including 49 EVLCs for great (GSV) and lesser (LSV) saphenous veins and 15 EVLCs for perforating veins (PV). Interventional technique was similar to previously used.

The study demonstrated that indicator paper used in KSAP-U, a biological reconnaissance device, was able to detect technophilic test microorganisms in samples of rubber, turbonit, and the water phase of the "fuel-medium" system even when the degree of material affection was minimal. The authors suggest the practical application of these means for the express indication of technophilic microorganisms in technical objects.

Percutaneous laser denervation of archoappendicular joints in spinal pain was made in 15 patients from a study group. Percutaneous high-frequency denervation of archoappendicular joints was performed in a control group consisting of 15 patients with facet syndrome. A preoperative protocol for each patient included at least two diagnostic segmental blocks.

According to the study results, despite its promising nature, the method in question is not accurate enough in terms of a precise diagnosis of invasive candidosis in oncology patients. The authors point out that the chromatography-diagnosis results need now a histological confirmation.

The early and late outcomes of electrical stimulation of the spinal cord are analyzed in chronic critical ischemia of the lower extremities and coronary heart disease with peripheral involvement of coronary arteries. The clinical capacities of this treatment that has enjoyed little use in our country due to its high cost showed atraumaticity of electrical stimulation of the spinal cord; a few cases of complications and no hospital mortality; a rapid positive clinical effect after the initiation of electric neurostimulation, and better life quality in patients in the postoperative periods.

The study was undertaken to design a kit of indicators for rapid detection and group identification of microbes causing biological damages to the materials. Indication is accomplished by dropwise colorimetric reaction for which modified chromatographic materials serve as substrates. Reactions are made by the indicators whose design allows reagents and samples to be measured on board space vehicles.
