Leveraging routine viral load testing to integrate diabetes screening among patients on antiretroviral therapy in Malawi.

Background: People living with HIV are at an increased risk of diabetes mellitus due to HIV infection and exposure to antiretroviral therapy (ART). Despite this, integrated diabetes screening has not been implemented commonly in African HIV clinics. Our objective was to explore the feasibility of integrating diabetes screening into existing routine HIV viral load (VL) monitoring and to determine a group of HIV patients that benefit from a targeted screening for diabetes.

Temporal Super-resolution of Ultrasound Imaging Using Matrix Completion.

The temporal super-resolution of the dynamic ultrasound imaging, a means to observe rapid heart movements, is considered an important subject in medical diagnosis of cardiac conditions. Here, a new technique based on the acquisition scheme using the matrix completion (MC) theory is offered for the temporal super-resolution of the two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound imaging. MC mentions the problem of completing a low-rank matrix when only a subset of its elements can be observed.

Anemia in people on second line antiretroviral treatment in Lilongwe, Malawi: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Anemia is common among people living with HIV infection and is frequently associated with poor quality of life and poor prognosis. It has been well described in antiretroviral naïve individuals and those on non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor-based first line antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens. However there is limited information on anemia for ART experienced individuals on protease inhibitor-based second line ART regimens in resource limited settings.

The cardiac effects of carbon nanotubes in rat.

Introduction: Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are novel candidates in nanotechnology with a variety of increasing applications in medicine and biology. Therefore the investigation of nanomaterials' biocompatibility can be an important topic. The aim of present study was to investigate the CNTs impact on cardiac heart rate among rats.
