Dysregulated Wnt signaling causes age-related characteristics such as oxidative stress, stem cell senescence, and abnormal bone homeostasis. Here we explored whether supplemental n-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) recovers the age-associated complications relative to osteoblastic Wntless (Wls) ablation and examined the possible mechanisms therein. For this work, we administered Col2.

Understanding the pathway complexity of supramolecular polymerization in biomimetic systems has been a challenging issue due to its importance in the development of rationally controlled materials and insight into self-assembly in nature. We herein report a kinetic trapping strategy as a new methodology on how to control the pathway of metallosupramolecular polymerization by employing secondary metal ions and/or ligands which form competitive complex species. For this, we proposed monoalkynylplatinum(ii) metalloligand (Pt-L) derived from a bis(amideterpyridine) receptor with one unoccupied terpyridyl terminal as a coordination site for the secondary metal ion (Ag or Fe).

Background: Anti-type 2 (T2) biologic therapies (biologics) improve exacerbation rates, lung function, and asthma-related quality of life (QoL) in patients with severe T2 asthma. However, studies comparing different biologics are lacking. We evaluated the QoL in patients with severe asthma comprehensively and compare the efficacy of different T2-directed biologics using QoL questionnaires.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with severe asthma often face lung function decline (LFD), but reliable biomarkers to predict this decline are still being identified.
  • A study analyzed CT images from 102 severe asthma patients to find links between imaging features and past instances of LFD, focusing on airway structure and lung health metrics.
  • The findings showed that lower airway wall thickness (WT) and higher levels of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) were associated with worse LFD, suggesting these factors could guide better management strategies for these patients.*

In this study, we propose a novel approach that integrates regime-shift detection with a mechanistic model to forecast the peak times of seasonal influenza. The key benefit of this approach is its ability to detect regime shifts from non-epidemic to epidemic states, which is particularly beneficial with the year-round presence of non-zero Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) data. This integration allows for the incorporation of external factors that trigger the onset of the influenza season-factors that mechanistic models alone might not adequately capture.

Phycocyanobilin, an algae-originated light-harvesting pigment known for its antioxidant properties, has gained attention as it plays important roles in the food and medication industries and has surged in demand owing to its low-yield extraction from natural resources. In this study, engineered was developed to achieve high PCB production, and three strategies were proposed: reinforcement of the heme biosynthesis pathway with the introduction of two PCB-related enzymes, strengthening of the pentose phosphate pathway to generate an efficient cycle of NADPH, and fed-batch fermentation to maximize PCB production. Each approach increased PCB synthesis, and the final engineered strain successfully produced 78.
