Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 662 patients were analyzed, with 40 matched pairs studied after applying propensity score matching. Results showed significant improvements in various health metrics post-surgery for both procedures, although gastrointestinal defecation was notably better in the EGPS group.
  • * While the EGPS patients had longer surgeries, longer hospital stays, and higher costs compared to the LC patients, there were no significant differences in overall recovery scores between the two groups, indicating that

Article Synopsis
  • Human β-defensin-1 (hBD-1) may help the immune system fight colorectal cancer by influencing the mTOR pathway and promoting autophagy in colon cancer cells (SW620).
  • In experiments, hBD-1 reduced the growth of SW620 cells and showed a decrease in mTOR activity while increasing proteins associated with autophagy (Beclin1 and LC3II/I).
  • Bioinformatics analysis identified seven lncRNAs linked to the mTOR pathway, with TCONS_00014506 being particularly important; inhibiting this lncRNA further enhanced hBD-1's effects on mTOR and autophagy.

Background: gene rearrangement is a common genetic abnormality of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), which predicts poor prognosis and is important in clinical diagnosis. rearrangement involves many chromosomes, among which, t(4;11) translocation is rare in AML. The present case was t(4;11) AML, accompanied by a hyperdiploid karyotype.

Glycosidases, which are the enzymes responsible for the removal of residual monosaccharides from glycoconjugates, are involved in many different biological and pathological events. The ability to detect sensitively the activity and spatiotemporal distribution of glycosidases in cells will provide useful tools for disease diagnosis. However, the currently developed fluorogenic probes for glycosidases are generally based on the glycosylation of the phenol group of a donor-acceptor type fluorogen.

Article Synopsis
  • Clinical event detection (CED) is a critical area in medical AI, but most research has focused on English narratives, leaving a gap in studies for Chinese narratives due to a lack of annotated data.
  • This paper introduces a new encoder-decoder model that uses a pre-trained language model to enhance semantic understanding in Chinese CED by integrating contextual representations into character embeddings.
  • Experimental results show that this model achieves high performance metrics (precision of 83.73%, recall of 86.56%, F1-score of 85.12%) and demonstrates improved results for minority category samples compared to baseline models.

Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (CCDs) are the primary causes of death in Chinese adults. With the increase in morbidity and mortality rates and the decrease in the age of onset, CCD becomes a very natural target for traditional Chinese medicine. Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus (SCF) is the dry ripe fruit of Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.

Cardiac hypertrophy (CH) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Mitigating or preventing CH is the most effective strategy for the treatment of CVDs. DanHong injection (DH) is a Chinese herbal medicine preparation (CHMP) widely used in clinical treatment of several CVDs in China.

Background: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital malformations with high mortality and morbidity. The prevalence of CHD reported previously ranged from 4 per 1000 live births to 50 per 1000 live births. In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to document the prevalence of CHD in Langfang district of Hebei Province, China by analyzing data collected by hospitals located in 11 the counties of the district, as supported by a public health campaign.

Objective: To investigate the immunophenotype of leukemia promyelocytes (LP) in bone marrow of patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) and to explore their characteristics and significance.

Methods: The immunophenotypes of leukemia cells in 43 patients with APL were analyzed by means of 4 color immunophenotypes; the cell population in which CD45 strength localized at 10(2) and the SSC strength locatized at 10(2) was defined as R3, the cell population in which CD45 strength localized at 10(3) and the SSC strength localized at 10(2) was defined as R5, moreover the ratio of positive cells >80% was defined as strong positive expression, the ratio of positive cells between 20%-80% was difined as weak positive expression, the ratio of positive cells <20% was difined as negative by gating method of CD45/SSC.

Results: There was a abnormal cell population (R3) in 79.

This study was purposed to analyse the immunophenotypic characteristics of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute monocytic leukemia (AML-M5b) by using multiparameter flow cytometry, and to explore its significance in diagnosis and differential diagnosis. The immunophenotypic characteristics of bone marrow samples from 14 CMML patients, 48 MDS patients, 46 AML-M5b patients and 18 normal persons were analyzed and compared by multiparametric flow cytometry. The results showed that the ratio of monocytes in CMML patients was obviously higher than that in MDS, AML-M5b patients and normal persons (P < 0.

Background: Pulmonary artery sling (PAS) is a rare congenital heart anomaly and may cause unexplained respiratory symptoms in infants. Since the non-specific respiratory symptoms of PAS may lead to misdiagnosis, the aim of this study was to clarify the clinical and imaging features of this disease for timely diagnosis and treatment.

Methods: Clinical histories, physical examinations and imaging studies were retrospectively evaluated in nine infants with PAS.
