The Effects of Preoperative (18)F-FDG PET/CT in Breast Cancer Patients in Comparison to the Conventional Imaging Study.

Purpose: There have been recent studies of the (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography and computed tomography ((18)F-FDG PET/CT) in the staging, detection, and follow-up of the breast cancer occurrence and recurrence. There was controversy concerning the use of (18)F-FDG PET/CT for staging primary breast cancer. In this study, we investigated the potential effects of (18)F-FDG PET/CT in the initial assessment of patients with primary breast cancer.

Current status of laparoscopic liver resection in Korea.

Since laparoscopic liver resection was first introduced in 2001, Korean surgeons have chosen a laparoscopic procedure as one of the treatment options for benign or malignant liver disease. We distributed and analyzed a nationwide questionnaire to members of the Korean Laparoscopic Liver Surgery Study Group (KLLSG) in order to evaluate the current status of laparoscopic liver resection in Korea. Questionnaires were sent to 24 centers of KLLSG.

Aims And Background: The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is a multiligand cell surface receptor of the immunoglobulin superfamily and a newly recognized invasion-related gene. High mobility group box-1 (HMGB-1) is a 30-kD protein binding to RAGE and acting as a transcription-factor-like protein that regulates the expression of several genes. In this study, the interaction effect between RAGE and HMGB-1 on the migration of SCC7 cells was investigated along with the inhibitory effect of the drug nifedipine on this interaction effect.

Pancreatic pseudocyst filled with semisolid lipids mimicking solid mass on endoscopic ultrasound.

Pancreatic pseudocysts, which account for 70%-90% of pancreatic cystic lesions, characteristically are non-epithelially lined cystic cavities that are contiguous with the pancreas. Pancreatic pseudocysts can be caused by acute, chronic or traumatic pancreatitis and should be differentiated from other pancreatic diseases with cystic appearances, especially cystic neoplasms. We report a unique case of a pancreatic pseudocyst filled with semisolid lipids, which appeared by endoscopic ultrasound as a solid mass, and was therefore resected.

Laparoscopic treatment of early retroperitoneal abdominal pregnancy implanted on inferior vena cava.

The case of an early retroperitoneal abdominal pregnancy implanted on inferior vena cava successfully resected through laparoscopic surgery is reported here. A 28-year-old woman presented with vaginal spotting and amenorrhrea for 7(+5) weeks. Although a diagnosis of right cornual ectopic pregnancy by transvaginal ultrasound was made and a laparoscopic wedge resection of the left uterine cornus was performed, the beta-human chorionic gonadotropin level remained high.
