Multi-insertion/deletion polymorphisms (Multi-InDels), as the novel genetic markers, show great potential in forensic research. Whereas, forensic researchers mainly focus on the multi-InDels on the autosomes, which can provide relatively limited information in some complex paternity cases. In this study, a novel X chromosomal multi-InDel multiplex amplification system was designed, containing 22 multi-InDels and one STR locus on the X chromosome.

Exposure to high temperatures can impair the grain-filling process in rice ( L.), potentially leading to the formation of chalky endosperm, but the molecular regulation mechanism remains largely elusive. Here, we reported that high-temperature (HT) stress (day/night, 35 °C/30 °C) reduces both the grain-filling rate and grain weight of Ningjing 1 variety compared to normal temperatures (NT, day/night, 28 °C/23 °C).

In this research, a self-developed panel comprising 22 X chromosomal multi-InDels and one X-STR was used to explore the genetic polymorphisms and forensic characteristics of these loci in Guizhou Miao and Guizhou Bouyei populations. Besides, genetic affiliations among Guizhou Miao, Guizhou Bouyei and Guizhou Han populations were investigated using principal component analysis, STRUCTURE and machine learning methods. The findings indicated that these loci in the male and female samples had comprehensive discrimination powers greater than 0.

Despite the importance of radiation therapy as a nonsurgical treatment for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), radiation resistance has always been a concern because of poor patient response and outcomes. Therefore, it is crucial to identify novel targets to increase the effectiveness of radiotherapy and investigate the mechanisms underlying radioresistance. Previously, we demonstrated that Spindlin 1 (SPIN1) was related to tumour initiation and progression.

The Greenland ice sheet (GrIS) is at present the largest single contributor to global-mass-induced sea-level rise, primarily because of Arctic amplification on an increasingly warmer Earth. However, the processes of englacial water accumulation, storage and ultimate release remain poorly constrained. Here we show that a noticeable amount of the summertime meltwater mass is temporally buffered along the entire GrIS periphery, peaking in July and gradually reducing thereafter.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a strong link between cardiovascular disease and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), with both sharing common risk factors, motivating this study on inpatient awareness and attitudes towards OSA.
  • A self-administered questionnaire assessed knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) about OSA among 591 cardiovascular disease patients, revealing low knowledge but moderate attitude and practice scores.
  • The study found that higher OSA risk positively impacted knowledge and practice, suggesting that improving awareness through targeted educational interventions is essential for better OSA management among these patients.

Despite extensive studies of deposited carbon in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS), an atomic-level comprehension of the effect of carbon on the morphology of cobalt-based FTS catalysts remains elusive. The adsorption configurations of carbon atoms on different crystal facets of hexagonal close-packed (hcp) Co nanoparticles were studied using density functional theory (DFT) calculations to explore the interaction mechanism between C and Co surfaces. The weaker adsorption strength of C atoms on Co(0001), Co(10-10), and Co(11-20) surfaces accounted for lower diffusion energy, leading to the facile formation of C dimers.

Background: In the domain of forensic science, the application of kinship identification and mixture deconvolution techniques are of critical importance, providing robust scientific evidence for the resolution of complex cases. Microhaplotypes, as the emerging class of genetic markers, have been widely studied in forensics due to their high polymorphisms and excellent stability.

Results And Discussion: In this research, a novel and high-efficient panel integrating 33 microhaplotype loci along with a sex-determining locus was developed by the next generation sequencing technology.

  • Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed too late, with over 70% of cases at an advanced stage, leading to poor outcomes; MRI is the best preoperative assessment tool, while cisplatin-based chemotherapy is the standard treatment.
  • A new technique uses nanoparticles (HA@PFG NPs) made from a cisplatin prodrug (Pt-COOH), iron, and natural polyphenols (Gossypol) to enhance drug delivery and release at tumor sites, allowing for controlled drug release and effective treatment.
  • Experimental results show that HA@PFG NPs can reduce tumor activity in a patient-derived model and work through specific signaling pathways, suggesting a promising integrated approach of MRI and

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how brain dysfunction can be detected using EEG and MRI to differentiate between types of synucleinopathies, particularly in patients with isolated rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (iRBD).
  • Researchers analyzed 35 patients with multiple system atrophy (MSA), 32 with Parkinson's disease (PD), and 30 with iRBD, comparing their brain activity and connectivity with 30 healthy controls. They found significant differences in brain wave patterns and connectivity that correlate with cognitive decline and motor dysfunction.
  • The results showed that a multimodal model combining EEG and MRI could effectively distinguish between MSA and PD, achieving high diagnostic accuracy, while highlighting that connectivity abnormalities in iRBD

Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common male genitourinary system malignancies. Despite the significant benefits of anti-PD-L1 immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy in other cancers, the reasons for its poor therapeutic efficacy in prostate cancer (PCa) remain unclear.NDR1 plays an important role in innate immunity, but its role in tumor immunity and immunotherapy has not been investigated.

Background: Persistent infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) significantly contributes to the development of cervical cancer. Thus, it is urgent to develop rapid and accurate methods for HPV detection. Herein, we present an ultrasensitive CRISPR/Cas12a-based electrochemiluminescent (ECL) imaging technique for the detection of HPV-18 DNA.

Due to a high degree of symptom overlap in the early stages, with movement disorders predominating, Parkinson's disease (PD) and multiple system atrophy (MSA) may exhibit a similar decline in motor areas, yet they differ in their spread throughout the brain, ultimately resulting in two distinct diseases. Drawing upon neuroimaging analyses and altered motor cortex excitability, potential diffusion mechanisms were delved into, and comparisons of correlations across distinct disease groups were conducted in a bid to uncover significant pathological disparities. We recruited thirty-five PD, thirty-seven MSA, and twenty-eight matched controls to conduct clinical assessments, electromyographic recording, and magnetic resonance imaging scanning during the "on medication" state.

The oral delivery of doxorubicin (DOX), an anti-cancer drug, encounters multiple hurdles such as limited gastrointestinal permeability, P-glycoprotein-mediated efflux, brief intestinal residence, and rapid degradation. This study introduced a novel approach utilizing hyaluronic acid (HA)-grafted fatty acid monoglycerides (HGD) to encapsulate DOX, forming HGD-DOX nanoparticles, aimed at enhancing its oral bioavailability. Drug encapsulated by HGD provided several advantages, including extended drug retention in the gastrointestinal tract, controlled release kinetics, and promotion of lymphatic absorption in the intestine.
