Hemojuvelin (HJV) is a membrane-bound protein prominently expressed in the skeletal muscle, heart, and liver. Despite its established function in iron regulation, the specific role of HJV in muscle physiology and pathophysiology is not well understood. In this study, we explored the involvement of HJV in disuse-induced muscle atrophy and uncovered the potential mechanisms.

Predictive biomarker identification in cancer treatment has traditionally relied on pre-defined analyses, limiting discoveries to expected biomarkers and potentially overlooking novel ones predictive of therapy response. In this work, we develop a novel machine-learning approach capable of exploring full landscape of mutations and combinations and identify potentially new predictive biomarkers for chemoimmunotherapy. Utilizing the liquid biopsy dataset from 313 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in the Phase 3 Impower150 trial (NCT02366143), we developed the HRdiffRF algorithm with a novel hazard ratio-splitting criterion.

The migration of atomic hydrogen species over heterogeneous catalysts is deemed essential for hydrogenation reactions, a process closely related to the catalyst's functionalities. While surface hydroxyls-assisted hydrogen spillover is well documented on reducible oxide supports, its effect on widely-used nonreducible supports, especially in electrocatalytic reactions with water as the hydrogen source, remains a subject of debate. Herein, a nonreducible oxide-anchored copper single-atom catalyst (Cu/SiO) is designed and uncover that the surface hydroxyls on SiO can serve as efficient transport channels for hydrogen spillover, thereby enhancing the activated hydrogen coverage on the catalyst and favoring the hydrogenation reaction.

High blood lead (Pb) levels have long been a significant environmental issue affecting the health and development of adolescents. However, the main reasons behind this phenomenon, especially the absorption and transportation processes of Pb in the intestine, have not been elucidated, which is the major barrier to reducing blood Pb levels in the human body, especially in adolescents. In this study, we explored the intestinal absorption process of Pb in rats of different ages at environmentally relevant concentrations.

Breast cancer is a commonly diagnosed cancer, while resistance to radiation therapy remains an important factor hindering the treatment of patients. Timosaponin AIII (Tim AIII) is a steroidal saponin from the Anemarrhena asphodeloides. Its pharmacologic effects and mechanisms for enhancing radiotherapy remain largely unknown.

Programmed necrosis/necroptosis greatly contributes to the pathogenesis of cardiac disorders including myocardial infarction, ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and heart failure. However, the fundamental mechanism underlying myocardial necroptosis, especially the mitochondria-dependent death pathway, is poorly understood. Synaptotagmin-1 (Syt1), a Ca sensor, is originally identified in nervous system and mediates synchronous neurotransmitter release.

Background And Purpose: To evaluate the association between sleep-related factors, including sleep duration, self-reported sleep disturbances, and diagnosed sleep disorders, and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in US participants.

Methods: The data of this study from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2007 and 2014. Sleep factors were assessed using a standardized questionnaire, and overall sleep scores were calculated on a scale of 0 to 3.

Infectious diseases caused by drug-resistant bacteria represent one of the most significant global public challenges of this century. There is an urgent need for the treatment of drug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections. A series of 3,4-dihydro-2H-[1,3]oxazino[5,6-h]quinoline derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria including strains from ATCC and clinical isolates, initially revealing the structure-activity relationship.

Tumor genomic profiling is often limited to one or two timepoints due to the invasiveness of tissue biopsies, but longitudinal profiling may provide deeper clinical insights. Using ctDNA data from IMpower150 study, we examined genetic changes in metastatic non-squamous NSCLC post-first-line immunotherapy. Mutations were most frequently detected in TP53, KRAS, SPTA1, FAT3, and LRP1B at baseline and during treatment.

Aptamer conformations are susceptible to environmental conditions, which makes it difficult to achieve stable targets detection in complex environments with aptasensors. Imprinting strategy was proposed to immobilize the specific conformation of aptamers, aiming to enhance their recognition anti-interference. However, it is mechanistically unclear how the imprinted polymers affect aptamers' recognition, which limits application of the strategy.

Half-life of cadmium (Cd) in blood is around 3-4 months, which is much shorter than its half-life in human organs (30 years). Promoting the elimination of Cd from the blood is a crucial step in reducing the body's Cd burden. However, there is currently no effective method available to facilitate this process.

The Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) is the key power device in the rod control power cabinet of nuclear power plants; its reliable operation is of great significance for ensuring the safe and economical operation of the nuclear power plants. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct fault prediction research on IGBT to achieve better condition-based maintenance and improve its operational reliability. However, power cabinets often operate under multiple, complex working conditions, so predicting IGBT faults from single working condition data usually has limitations and low accuracy.

Brucellosis poses a significant threat to public health in China. This study utilized a range of epidemiological indices, including seroprevalence and the number of reported cases, to illustrate the epidemic profile of the disease. Although the seroprevalence of brucellosis in animals (including sheep, goats, cattle, and swine) steadily decreased from a severe epidemic level in the 1950s to a low endemic level by 1989, the disease reemerged in 2000.

Article Synopsis
  • Early detection of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is vital, and a new RNA hybridization assay has been developed to directly detect HBV pgRNA without needing RNA extraction.
  • This assay uses a hybridization cascade reaction with specific oligonucleotide probes to identify pgRNA, and its effectiveness was confirmed by testing samples from both CHB patients and healthy subjects.
  • Optimal conditions for the assay include specific probe concentrations and incubation durations, achieving a sensitivity of 91.47% and specificity of 90.63%, making it ideal for efficient screening of active CHB infections.
