Article Synopsis
  • EBV has a lifelong latency but can switch to a lytic cycle under specific stimuli, leading to the production of new viruses.
  • Treatments with ceramide compounds influence this lytic switch, with C-ceramide increasing the expression of the viral BZLF1 gene and enhancing viral production.
  • The findings suggest the possibility of using drugs that target sphingolipid metabolism as a therapeutic approach for EBV-positive gastric cancer.

Identifying and translating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) biomarkers from bench to bedside using mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and lipidomics is hampered by inconsistent findings. Here, we investigated HCC at systemic and metabolism-centric multiomics levels by conducting a meta-analysis of quantitative evidence from 68 cohorts. Blood transcript biomarkers linked to the HCC metabolic phenotype were externally validated and prioritized.

The adverse effects of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been studied in various models. However, there has been discordance between molecular responses across the literature, attributed to methodological biases and the physicochemical variability of AgNPs. In this study, a gene pathway meta-analysis was conducted to identify convergent and divergent key events (KEs) associated with AgNPs and explore common patterns of these KEs across species.

Lipidomics coverage improvement is essential for functional lipid and pathway construction. A powerful approach to discovering organism lipidome is to combine various data acquisitions, such as full scan mass spectrometry (full MS), data-dependent acquisition (DDA), and data-independent acquisition (DIA). () is a useful model for discovering toxic-induced metabolism, high-throughput drug screening, and a variety of human disease pathways.

We have shown that prothrombin kringle-2 (pKr-2), a domain of human prothrombin distinct from thrombin could activate cultured rat brain microglia in vitro. However, little is known whether pKr-2-induced microglial activation could cause neurotoxicity on dopaminergic (DA) neurons in vivo. To address this question, pKr-2 was injected into the rat substantia nigra (SN).

Background: Epigenetic alterations such as DNA methylation and histone modification play important roles in carcinogenesis. It has been recently suggested that global histone modification patterns are independent predictors of cancer recurrence. In this study, we used immunohistochemistry to evaluate the patterns of histone H3 and H4 acetylation and trimethylation in gastric adenocarcinomas.

The physical mechanism of liquid crystal (LC) alignment in ferroelectric LC (FLC) droplets dispersed in a photocurable polymer matrix was studied. The orientational ordering of both FLC molecules and the polymer matrix was induced by a rubbed polyimide alignment layer. There existed an optimum FLC droplet size for the production of uniformly oriented molecules and smectic layers for maximum electro-optic modulation.
