Background: Long working hours and caregiving responsibilities are prevalent in many societies. These demands can lead to stress and adverse mental health outcomes. This study examines the associations of long working hours and family caregiving on psychological well-being and their interactions among South Korean wage workers.

Phosphorus-independent role of FGF23 in erythropoiesis and iron homeostasis.

A number of studies have reported an association between phosphorus, red blood cell (RBC) production, and iron metabolism. However, it is difficult to distinguish whether the effect of phosphorus is direct or through the actions of FGF23, and it is not clear whether phosphorus is positively or negatively associated with RBC production. In the present study, we investigated the effects of a) increased phosphorus load and b) phosphorus deficiency on erythropoiesis and iron metabolism in association with FGF23.

Objectives: This study explored the association of emotional labor and workplace violence with health-related productivity loss (HRPL).

Methods: We used the initial dataset from a survey known as the Korean Work, Sleep, and Health Study, an ongoing nationwide panel study initiated in 2022. To assess emotional labor, the study included 2386 workers who worked in customer service.

Minimally Invasive Surgery: Is It a Risk Factor for Postoperative Peritoneal Metastasis in pT4 Colon Cancer?

Background: Performing laparoscopic surgery for T4 colon cancer remains controversial because of concerns about whether its oncologic outcomes are comparable to those of open surgery, and postoperative peritoneal metastasis (PM) has been reported to occur more frequently in laparoscopic colectomy for T4 colon cancer. We investigated whether minimally invasive surgery (MIS) demonstrated a higher PM rate than open surgery and analyzed the risk factors for PM in pT4 colon cancer.

Methods: This study included 392 patients with pT4 colon cancer who underwent curative surgery at a referral hospital between January 2000 and December 2018.

Feed supplementation with the seaweed (Ascophllum Nodosum) extract reduces fat deposition in broiler chickens.

In poultry industry, the strategies for elevating of protein accretion with minimizing fat deposition have been applied, and seaweed algae has been focused one of the potential candidates. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of algae (Ascophllum Nodosum) extract (AE) on the growth performance and body composition of broiler chickens. A total of 240 one-day-old Ross 308 broiler chickens were allotted to 4 dietary treatment groups and fed experimental diets containing different concentrations of AE for 35 d as follows: 0 mg/kg (control, CON), 1,250 mg/kg (LAE), 2,500 mg/kg (MAE), or 5,000 mg/kg (HAE).

Background: Webtoon, a digital form of comics created in the Republic of Korea, has spread widely with advantages that anyone can become a cartoonist and that autonomy of creation is guaranteed. The purpose of this study is to identify the working conditions of webtoon writers and analyze the relationship between these conditions and depressive symptoms.

Methods: A survey was carried out on webtoon writers and a survey data of 312 webtoon writers were analyzed.

Prognostic Role of CA-125 Elimination Rate Constant (KELIM) in Patients with Advanced Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Who Received PARP Inhibitors.

Background: This multicenter retrospective study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of the CA-125 elimination rate constant K (KELIM) in EOC patients who received platinum-based chemotherapy followed by PARP inhibitors, in either upfront or interval treatment settings.

Methods: Between July 2019 and November 2022, we identified stage III-IV EOC patients who underwent primary or interval cytoreductive surgery and received olaparib or niraparib. Individual KELIM values were assessed based on validated kinetics and classified into favorable and unfavorable cohorts.

Upregulation of the nutritional value of feed is the major target of various studies in the livestock industry, and dietary enzyme supplementation could aid in digesting the nondegrading nutrients of grains in feed ingredients. Dried distillers' grains with solubles (DDGS) is a byproduct of the fermentation process in the beverage industry and can be used as a large supply source of fiber in feed. Therefore, we conducted an experiment with male broiler chickens to investigate the effect of various types of enzymes on DDGS and compare the efficacy of single enzyme and multienzyme complexes on growth performance and gut environments in broiler chickens.

Long-term outcome of stem cell transplantation with and without anti-tumor necrotic factor therapy in perianal fistula with Crohn's disease.

Background: Stem cell transplantation is a promising therapeutic option for curing perianal fistula in Crohn's disease (CD). Anti-tumor necrotic factor (TNF) therapy combined with drainage procedure is effective as well. However, previous studies are limited to proving whether the combination treatment of biologics and stem cell transplantation improves the effect of fistula closure.

Short- and long-term outcomes of surgical treatment in patients with intestinal Behcet's disease.

Background: Behcet's disease (BD), a chronic vasculitic disorder affecting multiple organs, is characterized by recurrent oral and genital ulcers, arthritis, vasculitis, and intestinal ulcers. Although intestinal involvement of BD is common in East Asia, the efficacy and long-term outcomes of surgical treatment of intestinal BD still remain to be established.

Aim: To evaluate the postoperative clinical course of intestinal BD and determine factors associated with its recurrence.
