Background: Nutcracker syndrome (NCS) has been reported to coexist with various glomerulonephritis (GN). This study investigated clinical features of NCS combined with GN in a pediatric case series and the possible relationship between these two conditions.
Methods: Clinical and pathologic findings of 15 children with NCS and biopsy-proven GN were analyzed.
Objective: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak after resection of intradural spinal tumors (IST) represents a significant postoperative challenge. Although various dura suture techniques and materials have been explored experimentally, direct clinical comparative studies are lacking. This study evaluated the effectiveness of specific suture materials in primary dural closure post-IST resection and identified associated risk factors for CSF leak.

Routine chest CT is not essential for the diagnostic workup for infective endocarditis (IE), but this type of study may be the initial imaging modality in the evaluation of patients ultimately proven to have IE who present to the emergency department with nonspecific clinical symptoms. Although routine chest CT cannot directly assess valvular oscillating motion due to the lack of cine images, we hypothesized that a combination of elongated nodular valve thickening and abnormal orientation to the normal valve with a blind end on routine CT (indirect-oscillation sign) might suggest movable vegetation indirectly. To evaluate this possibility, we studied 27 patients with IE and 35 controls who underwent both routine chest CT and echocardiography.

Historically, extraction was recommended for cracked teeth with radicular extensions due to their poor prognosis. Recent literature, however, suggests that these teeth may be saved with careful case selection and appropriate treatment.

A comprehensive understanding of the factors that influence treatment outcomes is crucial in endodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. Having knowledge that takes into account dental and patient-related conditions when choosing procedures can help clinicians maximize the prognosis of natural teeth and reduce postoperative complications. That being said, the landscape of outcome studies in endodontics is continually evolving, presenting a challenge for many clinicians trying to stay current with the latest literature.

Fibrosis, associated with long-term overall mortality and liver-related events, requires evaluation. Traditionally, liver biopsy has been the gold standard for diagnosing fibrosis.

Materials And Methods: This cohort study included a retrospective record review and prospective data collection of pediatric patients with teeth treated with REPs or APEX between 2005 and 2014. Data including the presence of a periapical lesion, external root resorption, obliteration, apical hard tissue, apical closure, intracanal calcifications, and radiographic root area (RRA) change based on measurements were collected/measured from radiographic images.
Purpose: The primary imaging modality for the diagnosis of mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is echocardiography supplemented by electrocardiography (ECG)-gated cardiac computed tomography (CT) angiography. However, we have recently encountered patients with MVP who were initially identified on non-ECG-gated enhanced chest CT. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of non-ECG-gated enhanced chest CT to predict the presence of MVP.

In particular, malignant exosomes have received a great deal of attention as possible indicators for cancer detection and treatment. To swiftly and precisely identify malignant exosomes from normal exosomes in diverse bodily fluids, we developed polydiacetylene (PDA)-based aptasensors with distinct optical features exhibiting color shift in response to biological recognition.

However, guidelines weakly recommend simethicone administration before colonoscopy. The present study aimed to confirm the advantages of taking simethicone and determine the appropriate time for taking simethicone.

Therefore, future studies should provide evidence regarding the mechanisms of potential targets that can overcome the resistance as well as alleviate pain. Here, we show that the emergence of cisplatin resistance is highly associated with EGFR hyperactivation, and that EGFR hyperactivation is arisen by a transcriptional increase in the pain-generating channel, TRPV1, via NANOG.

While molecular tumor profiling can expand therapeutic options, our understanding of potential targetable drivers comes from studies of adult liquid tumors, which does not necessarily translate to efficacious treatment in pediatric liquid tumors. There is also no consensus on when profiling should be performed and its use in guiding therapies.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of children aged < 3 years who were evaluated for UTI with urinalysis, urine culture, and uNGAL measurements during a 5-year period. Sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratios (LRs), predictive values (PVs), area under the curves (AUCs) of uNGAL cut-off levels, and various microscopic pyuria thresholds for detecting UTI were calculated for dilute (SG < 1.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of probiotic pretreatment on the alteration and recovery of gut microbiota after bowel preparation and its correlation with minor complications. This was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial that included participants 40-65 years of age. Participants were randomly provided probiotics (active group) or placebo (placebo group) for 1 month before the colonoscopy and their feces collected.

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) increases accessibility for patients with limited resources, thus reducing costs and decreasing the risk of non-compliance or subsequent loss to follow-up. Despite the increasing utility of ultrasonography, literature demonstrates a lack of sufficient training in POCUS and ultrasound-guided techniques for Family Medicine residents.

Among three types of Galloyl-PDA vesicles prepared by changing the ratio of newly synthesized galloyl group-conjugated 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid (Galloyl-PCDA) and matrix 10,12-tricosadinoic acid (TCDA), the blue Galloyl-PDA vesicles with 1:9 molar ratio of Galloyl-PCDA:TCDA showed the most dramatic color transitions to red with colorimetric response (CR) value of 46.66 ± 1.

Background: There have been several reports of patients with cancer visiting the Emergency Department (ED) rather than the outpatient department of their oncologist. In this study, we aimed to analyze the chief complaints, visit time, and time spent in the ED between study groups of patients with cancer visiting the ED. This finding will help medical staff provide better care for patients with cancer and reduce time spent in the ED.
