Article Synopsis
  • Toxic algal blooms can harm fish and make seafood unsafe to eat.
  • A study found that high carbon dioxide levels in the ocean make certain toxic algae grow more and produce different amounts of dangerous toxins.
  • These toxic substances build up in clams, making it harder for them to get rid of the toxins, which could mean clams are more dangerous to eat in the future.

To targeted overcome the multidrug resistance (MDR) and metastasis of liver tumors, we proposed to develop a palladium (Pd) agent based on a specific residue of human serum albumin (HSA) for multiacting on tumor cell and other components in the tumor microenvironment. To this end, a series of Pd(II) 2-acetylpyridine thiosemicarbazone compounds were optimized to obtain a Pd(II) compound (5b) with significant cytotoxicity against HepG2/ADM cells. Subsequently, we constructed a HSA-5b complex delivery system and revealed the structural mechanism of HSA delivering 5b.

Background: Both copy number variant-sequencing (CNV-seq) and karyotype analysis have been used as powerful tools in the genetic aetiology of fetuses with congenital heart diseases (CHD). However, CNV-seq brings clinicians more confusions to interpret the detection results related to CHD with or without extracardiac abnormalities. Hence, we conducted this study to investigate the clinical value of CNV-seq in fetuses with CHD.

Article Synopsis
  • Total nitrogen levels in Taihu Lake have decreased since 2015, while total phosphorus levels have increased, showing an uneven relationship between the two.
  • Denitrification, the main nitrogen removal process, was studied through N isotope incubation experiments to see how water temperature affects it and to determine the nitrate source for denitrification in the lake sediments.
  • Findings revealed that denitrification rates vary by location and temperature, peaking below 30 °C and decreasing at higher temperatures, with most denitrification relying on nitrate from the water, providing useful insights for improving water quality models for Taihu Lake and similar ecosystems.
