Background: Although understanding long-term trends in adolescent screen time and the influence of family structure is essential, there is a lack of research addressing these issues comprehensively.
Objective: This study aimed to conduct comprehensive investigations into adolescent screen time before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a particular focus on family structures.
Methods: This study used nationwide, large-scale data from the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey from South Korea.
Background: In 2006, the Korean Atopic Dermatitis Association (KADA) working group released the diagnostic criteria for Korean atopic dermatitis (AD). Recently, more simplified, and practical AD diagnostic criteria have been proposed.
Objective: Based on updated criteria and experience, we studied to develop and share a consensus on diagnostic criteria for AD in Koreans.
Background: Topical retinoids, while renowned for their efficacy in treating acne vulgaris, are often hampered by inter-individual variability in tolerability. This challenge, primarily driven by side effects like erythema, scaling, and dryness, significantly impacts patient adherence and, ultimately, treatment outcomes.
Aims: This prospective, multi-center, observational study investigated the novel role of a specific dermocosmetic regimen as adjunctive therapy, focusing on its ability to mitigate retinoid-induced side effects and enhance the overall tolerability of acne treatment regimens in a Korean population.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease characterized by cartilage breakdown and chronic inflammation in joints. As the most prevalent form of arthritis, OA affects around 600 million people globally. Despite the increasing number of individuals with OA risk factors, such as aging and obesity, there is currently no effective cure for the disease.

The progressive impairment in lung functions is chronic and highly fatal, presenting itself as a global health challenge. Because of the lack of efficacious treatments, the underlying mechanism should be investigated.

In this study, two types of DNA calibrators-plasmid DNA (pDNA) and genomic DNA (gDNA)-were used to quantify four GM soybean events (SYHT0H2, MON87751, DAS-44406-6, and DAS-81419-2). The PCR efficiency and linearity for the calibrators adhered to the CODEX guidelines.

Objective: To establish a Korean Acne Rosacea Society (KARS) consensus for experts' perception and treatment patterns of truncal acne.
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is caused by lipid accumulation within the liver. The pathogenesis underlying its development is poorly understood. Benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and a group 1 carcinogen.

Spinocerebellar ataxia type 6 (SCA6) is a polyglutamine (polyQ) disease, which is caused by the elongation of CAG repeats encoding polyQ in the CACNA1A gene. The CACNA1A gene encodes two proteins, namely, α1A (a subunit of the plasma membrane calcium channel), which is translated in its entire length, and α1ACT, which is translated from the second cistron, and both proteins have a polyQ tract. The α1A-polyQ and α1ACT-polyQ proteins with an elongated polyQ stretch have been reported to form aggregates in cells and induce neuronal cell death, but the subcellular localization of these proteins and their cytotoxic properties remain unclear.

Animal venoms contain a variety of functional peptides, making them a promising platform for pharmaceutical development. In this study, a novel toxin peptide with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities was discovered from the spider venom gland transcriptome by implementing computational approaches.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe escalating prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria poses an immediate and grave threat to public health. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have gained significant attention as a promising alternative to conventional antibiotics. Animal venom comprises a diverse array of bioactive compounds, which can be a rich source for identifying new functional peptides.

Eccrine syringofibroadenoma (ESFA) is a tumor of eccrine ductal differentiation. ESFA is a rare disease, with only approximately 80 cases reported worldwide. ESFA can be classified into five subtypes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAdipose tissue has a significant impact on breast cancer initiation and progression owing to its substantial proportion in the breast. Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) are major players in the breast tumor microenvironment (TME) as they interact with cancer cells. The intricate interaction between ADMSCs and cancer cells not only drives the differentiation of ADMSCs into cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) but also the metastasis of cancer cells, which is attributed to the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis.

Rosacea is a common chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disorder that results in diminished skin barrier function. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is a non-invasive method for visualizing the dynamic status of epidermal and upper dermal structures.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) exhibit inhibitory activity against a wide spectrum of pathogens and can be utilized as an alternative to conventional antibiotics. In this study, two novel AMPs were identified from the venom transcriptome of the spider (Scopoli, 1772) using methods, and their antimicrobial activity was experimentally validated.

Background: Pigmented contact dermatitis (PCD), a rare variant of non-eczematous contact dermatitis, is clinically characterized by sudden-onset brown or grey pigmentation on the face and neck. It is hypothesized to be caused by repeated contact with low levels of allergens.
Objectives: This study evaluated the risk of using hair dyes in patients with PCD in Korea.
Background: Facial erythema is a common problem among patients visiting dermatologists. However, data on the clinical characteristics of facial erythema in healthy people are lacking. We aimed to compare and analyze the severity and pattern of facial vascularity in healthy subjects based on their age and gender.

Orofacial cleft disorders, including cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P), are one of the most frequently-occurring congenital disorders worldwide. The health issues of patients with CL/P encompass far more than just their anatomic anomaly, as patients with CL/P are prone to having a high incidence of infectious diseases. While it has been previously established that the oral microbiome of patients with CL/P differs from that of unaffected patients, the exact nature of this variance, including the relevant bacterial species, has not been fully elucidated; likewise, examination of anatomic locations besides the cleft site has been neglected.
