The extent of alien taxa impacts on river ecosystem health is unclear, but their frequency continues to rise. We investigated 1) the prevalence of including alien taxa in common bioindicators used in river bioassessment, 2) the effect of alien taxa on the richness and abundance of natives, and 3) whether including alien taxa in bioassessment tools increased their sensitivity to river degradation. In the 17 countries analyzed fish represented the greatest number of alien species (1726), followed by macrophytes (925), macroinvertebrates (556), and diatoms (7).

Unstable Vancouver B1 periprosthetic femoral fracture fixation: A biomechanical comparison between a novel C-shaped memory alloy implant and cerclage wiring.

Background: To compare the biomechanical stability of a novel, C-shaped nickel-titanium shape memory alloy (SMA) implant (C-clip) with traditional cerclage wiring in the fixation of a Vancouver B1 (VB1) periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF).

Methods: In total, 18 synthetic femoral fracture models were constructed to obtain unstable VB1 fracture with an oblique fracture line 8 cm below the lesser trochanter. For each model, the distal portion was repaired using a 10-hole locking plate and four distal bi-cortical screws.

DNA Barcoding of Chironomid Larvae (Diptera: Chironomidae) from Large Rivers in South Korea to Facilitate Freshwater Biomonitoring and Public Health Surveillance.

Chironomid larvae are among the dominant benthic macroinvertebrates in all types of water systems in South Korea. They may pass through pipes in rivers (raw water) and occur in drinking water, thus creating public health issues. To prevent fetal loss, preterm delivery, and perinatal morbidity of multifetal pregnancies (MPs), fetal reduction (FR) is offered to some patients. We retrospectively analysed the data of 124 MPs that underwent transabdominal FR to twin ( = 63) and singleton ( = 61) pregnancies at a mean gestational age of 12 + 6 weeks between December 2006 and January 2018. FR was performed transabdominally with the injection of potassium chloride into the intracardiac or intrathoracic space of the fetus or fetuses after ultrasound screening for nuchal translucency and anatomical defects.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the cognitive function of patients over 60 years old with meningioma using a domain-specific neuropsychological test and to investigate the relevant factors affecting pre-operative cognitive decline in different subdomains.
