Lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) is a subtype of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). LUSC occurs at the bronchi, shows a squamous appearance, and often occurs in smokers. To determine the epigenetic regulatory mechanisms of tumorigenesis, we performed a genome-wide analysis of DNA methylation in tumor and adjacent normal tissues from LUSC patients.

Purpose: Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a systemic inflammatory arthritis mediated mainly by interleukin (IL)-17. The vitronectin-derived bioactive peptide, VnP-16, exerts an anti-osteoporotic effect via β1 and αvβ3 integrin signaling. SpA is associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis, and we investigated the effect of VnP-16 in mice with SpA.

Firm's effort on Green technology innovation (hereafter, called G-innovation) is affected by financing constraints, and firm will make a discretionary choice according to its own situation, to achieve the maximization of self-interests. Based on the data of Chinese micro enterprises, firstly, we empirically analyze firms' decision-making towards G-innovation when faced with financing constraints. It supports the view that financing constraints can hinder enterprise technological innovation.

Objectives: Patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) have a heterogenic disease course and treatment response. Cluster-based phenotypes are useful for predicting AS disease course. Here, we compared drug retention and clinical efficacy of biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) in AS patients with cluster A and cluster B phenotypes.

Article Synopsis
  • Yield prediction is crucial for food security, and although high-throughput phenotyping (HTPP) collects extensive plant data, it is underutilized due to inadequate image analysis and yield data methods.
  • This study utilized deep learning networks to enhance image data quality, link these images to crop yield performance, and apply machine learning to identify key growth intervals for yield prediction.
  • The findings demonstrated a strong correlation between projected area and fresh weight of crops, showcasing the potential for time-series analysis in improving yield predictions for vertical farming practices.

In this work, a LaB -alloying strategy is reported to effectively boost the figure-of-merit (ZT) of Ge Bi Te-based alloys up to ≈2.2 at 723 K, attributed to a synergy of La-dopant induced band structuring and structural manipulation. Density-function-theory calculations reveal that La dopant enlarges the bandgap and converges the energy offset between the sub-valence bands in cubic-structured GeTe, leading to a significantly increased effective mass, which gives rise to a high Seebeck coefficient of ≈263 µV K and in turn a superior power factor of ≈43 µW cm K at 723 K.

Distraction osteogenesis (DO) is a powerful method to reconstruct segmented bone defects in the extremities. However, the main shortcoming of DO is the time-consuming consolidation period. To shorten the consolidation process, two biocompatible inorganic ions, strontium and silicone, were applied to design a biocompatible material to enhance bone mineralization ability during DO.

In this work, a phenothiazine-based fluorescent probe (PR) has been developed for the selective detection of hydrogen sulfide (HS) in biosystems and monitoring HS produced in the food spoilage process. The nucleophilic attack of HS on the CC double bond of PR a Michael addition interdicted the ICT process to trigger 34-fold enhancement of the fluorescence emission. PR featured high selectivity and sensitivity (1.

Mulberry extract from contains an anthocyanin pigment and has been widely used as a food additive in China and other Eastern Asian countries. Only few research has been done on toxicological profiling of mulberry extract for its safety evaluation; however, the data is inconclusive. In the current study, mulberry extract of 4200, 1400, or 466 mg/kg were orally administrated to Sprague Dawley rats for 90 consecutive days followed by a recovery period of 28 days.

Direct chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of wafer-scale high-quality graphene on dielectrics is of paramount importance for versatile applications. Nevertheless, the synthesized graphene is typically a polycrystalline film with high density of uncontrolled defects, resulting in a low carrier mobility and high sheet resistance. Here, we report the direct growth of highly oriented monolayer graphene films on sapphire wafers.

P-type SnTe-based compounds have attracted extensive attention because of their high thermoelectric performance. Previous studies have made tremendous efforts to investigate native atomic defects in SnTe-based compounds, but there has been no direct experimental evidence so far. On the basis of MBE, STM, ARPES, DFT calculations, and transport measurements, this work directly visualizes the dominant native atomic defects and clarifies an alternative optimization mechanism of electronic transport properties via defect engineering in epitaxially grown SnTe (111) films.

  • - The study focuses on improving the diagnosis of coronary artery disease by using three convolutional neural network (CNN) models to analyze CT images, which traditionally require time-consuming manual review by radiologists.
  • - Researchers experimented with different types of CT images: original scans, images focused solely on the heart, and those segmented into nine parts to assess the presence of calcium buildup.
  • - The best results came from using the Resnet 50 model on the cropped heart images, achieving an accuracy of 98.52%, suggesting that future advancements could lead to automated analysis of coronary artery calcium in CT scans.

  • - Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic skin condition characterized by inflammation and itchiness, with house dust mites, specifically Der p 38, identified as significant allergens that intensify its development.
  • - In laboratory studies, Der p 38 was found to compromise filaggrin production, a key protein for skin barrier function, while promoting inflammation through various cellular pathways.
  • - Experiments in mice showed that exposure to Der p 38 increased skin lesions and inflammatory cell activity, but these effects were less pronounced in mice lacking the TLR4 receptor, suggesting TLR4's crucial role in the allergenic response triggered by Der p 38.
