This study focuses on the development of nanofiltration (NF) membranes with enhanced antifouling properties, high flux, and low molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) for the separation of lignin from paper mill wastewater. Using a sol-gel method by dip-coating, alumina hollow fiber membranes were fabricated with an interlayer to reduce surface roughness. The interlayer improved mechanical properties, effectively covering the surface irregularities and allowing for the subsequent application of a thinner functional layer.

Microneedle applications in therapeutic delivery and analytics sampling are restricted because of various issues, including smaller area for drug loading and analytics sampling. To achieve sufficient drug loading and analytics sampling and improve drug penetration while maintaining painless administration, patch-type microneedle arrays were designed and fabricated using polymer casting from a conical cavity mold.

Methods: This retrospective, nonrandomized study included 60 eyes from 60 patients who had undergone PPV for VH due to PDR. These patients were divided into two groups: group 1, those who underwent photocoagulation up to ora serrata using the scleral indentation technique during surgery; and group 2, those who did not undergo scleral indentation when photocoagulation and underwent photocoagulation up to vortex veins.

Obesity is commonly associated with excessive adipogenesis, a process by which preadipocytes undergo differentiation into mature adipocytes; however, the mechanisms underlying adipogenesis are not completely understood. Potassium channel tetramerization domain-containing 17 (Kctd17) belongs to the Kctd superfamily and act as a substrate adaptor of the Cullin 3-RING E3 ubiquitin ligase, which is involved in a wide variety of cell functions. However, its function in the adipose tissue remains largely unknown.

Herein, Co- or/and Mo-supported Beta(25) zeolites with various Co/Mo ratios were prepared as transition metal-supported zeolite catalysts without the need for sulfidation of conventional transition metal catalysts. Based on the catalyst characterization, the Co/Mo ratio alters the metal phase with the appearance of CoMoO and the altered Co metal phase strongly influences the acidic properties of Beta(25) by the formation of Lewis (L) acid sites with different strengths as CoO and CoMoO for strong and weak L acid sites, respectively.

Thiourea was used as a sulfur- and nitrogen-doping source to produce a S,N-doped TiO photocatalyst powder. For comparative purposes, undoped TiO powder was also synthesized.

In this study, a novel NF membrane was prepared by co-depositing a titanium dioxide (TiO) and graphene oxide (GO) composite layer directly onto a porous α-AlO hollow fiber (HF) support. An 8 µm-thick TiO/GO layer was deposited to the surface of α-Al2O3 HF support by vacuum deposition method to produce advanced TiO/GO-AlO HF NF membrane.

By tracking both large-scale utilization and clinical imaging results data, the MIDH approach is targeted at measuring surrogates for important disease-related observational quantities over time. To quantitatively investigate its clinical applicability, we performed a retrospective multi-institutional study encompassing 13 healthcare systems throughout the United States before and after the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

In this study, AlO-based hollow fiber membranes functionalized with nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide were produced and successfully applied for efficient heterogeneous photocatalytic NH gas degradation. AlO hollow fiber membranes were prepared using the phase inversion process.

Despite these advantages, the previous nanoimprint lithography has rarely been used for producing sophisticated nanoscale patterns on a non-planar substrate that has many extended applications. Here, the simple integration of nanoimprinting process with a help of a transparent stamp wrapped on the cylindrical roll and UV optical source in the core to enable high-throughput pattern transfer, particularly on a fabric substrate is demonstrated.

Lutein is a type of carotenoid that forms human macular pigments in the retina, where it inhibits harmful blue light and contributes to the strengthening of the antioxidant defense of retinal pigment epithelium cells.
Methods: Synthesis of the Lutein-rGO (Lu-rGO) complex was carried out for the optimized concentration.
Collagen type I is the most abundant form of collagen in human tissues, and is composed of two identical α-1 type I chains and an α-2 type I chain organized in a triple helical structure. A previous study has shown that human collagen α-2 type I (hCOL1A2) promotes collagen synthesis, wound healing, and elastin production in normal human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). However, the biological effects of human collagen α-1 type I (hCOL1A1) on various skin properties have not been investigated.

Especially, highly ordered structural topographies and chemical features from the wide range of interfaces have been considered as important characteristics to understand the complex relationship between the surface chemistries and biological systems. Here, we report a simple fabrication method to create patterned surfaces over large areas using evaporative self-assembly that is designed to produce a sacrificial template and lithographic etch masks of polymeric stripe patterns, ranging from micrometer to nanoscale.

Because mitochondria are essential organelles for regulating energy homeostasis and intrinsic apoptosis, the perturbation of mitochondrial functions has been considered as an anticancer treatment. In this study, a new near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe, SiR-Mito11 was developed as a theragnostic agent for brain tumor by targeting mitochondria. SiR-Mito11 exhibited potential anticancer activity against glioma cells but tolerance in normal neuronal cells.
