Here, using field potentials from the CA1 area and a ten-pulse stimulation train of varying frequency we show that activation of β-ARs by isoproterenol preferentially facilitates the output from the dorsal hippocampus at the frequency range of 3-40 Hz without affecting short-term synaptic plasticity. Furthermore, isoproterenol increases basal synaptic transmission in the dorsal hippocampus only and enhances basal neuronal excitation more in the dorsal than the ventral hippocampus.

Objective: Various biomarkers have been studied in the early post-kidney transplantation (post-KTx) period in order to identify potential therapeutic targets for improving long-term graft survival. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is a biomarker that has recently gained interest in cardiovascular disease but its role still remains to be defined post-KTx.
Patients And Methods: We prospectively evaluated the levels of PCSK9, interleukin (IL)-6, WBC and C-reactive protein in seventy-three hemodialysis patients undergoing KTx, at 3 time-points; pre-transplantation (day 0) and at 1 and 6-months post-KTx.

In this work, Digital Elevation Models, hydrographic, and climatic data are used together with computer simulations to understand the control of climate change on marine pollution. The results show that different climate change signals can potentially alter the flow and concentration of pollution in the European Seas, when compared to the present day.

We investigated the relationship between AT and arterial inflammation in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (heFH) and familial combined hyperlipidemia (FCH).
Methods And Results: A total of 40 patients (20 heFH/20 FCH) and a subgroup of 20 of non-heFH/FCH patients were enrolled.
In September 2017 the Agia Zoni II sank in the Saronic Gulf, Greece, releasing approximately 500 tonnes of heavy fuel oil, contaminating the Salamina and Athens coastlines. Effects of the spill, and remediation efforts, on sediment microbial communities were quantified over the following 7 months. Five days post-spill, the concentration of measured hydrocarbons within surface sediments of contaminated beaches was 1,093-3,773 μg g dry sediment (91% alkanes and 9% polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), but measured hydrocarbons decreased rapidly after extensive clean-up operations.
