The progression and response to systemic treatment of cancer is substantially dependent on the balance between cancer cell death (apoptosis and necroptosis) and cancer cell survival (autophagy). Although well characterized in experimental systems, the status of cancer cell survival and cell death in human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), especially in response to chemotherapy and different types of chemotherapy is poorly described. The median (95% confidence interval) survival was 31.

However, ∼40% of patients cannot be resected after NT and reliable preoperative response evaluation is currently lacking. We investigated CA 19-9 levels and their dynamics during NT for prediction of resectability and survival.

Aim of the study was the evaluation of neoadjuvant therapy with a focus on Folfirinox.
Methods: All consecutive patients undergoing surgery for PDAC after neoadjuvant treatment were analyzed (clinico-pathological characteristics, secondary resection rates, outcome).
Orthotopic liver transplantation (LTP) is nowadays a standard procedure, and provides the chance of survival of patients with end-stage non-treatable chronic liver disease or acute liver failure. Despite long-term survival with a good quality of life in the majority of patients, about 20% develop early allograft dysfunction (EAD), which leads to death or the need for re-transplantation. Therefore, the early diagnosis of EAD and evaluation of its risk factors are very important.
