Telomere shortening is a prominent hallmark of aging and is emerging as a characteristic feature of Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Optimal telomerase activity prevents progressive shortening of telomeres that triggers DNA damage responses.
