Objective: The transplantation of hearts from donors who experienced intracranial bleeding (ICB) has been associated with inferior long-term survival in both single-center analyses and, more recently, with the United Network for Ogan Sharing Registry. The purpose of this study was to further explore this relationship through propensity score matching in recipients receiving donor hearts from ICB and non-ICB donors in a large national registry.
Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort analysis of the United Network for Organ Sharing Registry Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network between 2006 and 2018 for adult candidates wait-listed for isolated heart transplantation.
Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is a disorder mediated by autoantibodies against the GluN1 subunit of NMDAR. It occurs with severe neuropsychiatric symptoms that often improve with immunotherapy. Clinical studies and animal models based on patients' antibody transfer or NMDAR immunization suggest that the autoantibodies play a major pathogenic role.

This study aimed to characterize the use of and variations in NRP and DPP for DCD transplants in the United States.
Methods: Heart transplants performed between December 1, 2019 and March 31, 2024, were identified from the United Network for Organ Sharing database.
Aim: One-third of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) do not achieve full remission and have high relapse rates even after treatment, leading to increased medical costs and reduced quality of life and health status. The possible specificity of treatment-resistant depression (TRD) neurobiology is still under investigation, with risk factors such as higher inflammatory markers being identified. Given recent findings on the role of choroid plexus (ChP) in neuroinflammation and hippocampus in treatment response, the aim of the present study was to evaluate inflammatory- and trophic-related differences in these regions along with ventricular volumes among patients with treatment-sensitive depression (TSD), TRD, and healthy controls (HCs).

By comparison with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis (MTLE-HS), this study aimed to identify ictal electro-clinical features that might help clinicians recognize ALE-related seizures.
Methods: This retrospective, multi-centre study analysed the ictal semiology and EEG correlate of 116 video-EEG-captured seizures in 40 ALE patients and 45 ones recorded in 21 MTLE-HS subjects.
Objective: Randomized data support transplantation of hearts from donors after circulatory death. This may lead to a sizeable increase in the donor pool. Regional variations in donors after circulatory death heart use were examined to help elucidate barriers to donor pool expansion.

This follow-up analysis aimed to further define the clinical impact of concurrent TVS after 2 months of follow-up.
Methods: Patients with moderate or severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) on preoperative echocardiography (n = 71) were randomized to LVAD implantation either alone (no TVS group; n = 34) or with concurrent TVS (TVS group; n = 37).
Background: Heart transplantation following donation after circulatory death (DCD HT) has short-term survival outcomes comparable to donation after brain death and has led to a significant increase in transplantation volume. The U.S.

Methods: Patients ≥18 years of age who underwent HM3 LVAD implantation between 2015 and 2020 were identified from a single tertiary care center. The primary outcome assessed was death or device replacement.
The overall value of treatments for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) depends on several factors, including preferences of the general population, who contributes to the financing of health systems. This study investigated societal preferences for attributes of CLL treatments in Italy. An online large-scale survey was designed using a discrete choice experiment (DCE) methodology and delivered to the Italian adult general population.

One of the difficult tasks of developing a well-characterized model is having a reliable modality with which to trend the progression of disease. Acute rejection is one of the most devastating complications that can occur following organ transplantation.

Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are excellent therapies for advanced heart failure patients either bridged to transplant or for lifetime use. LVADs also allow for reverse remodeling of the failing heart that is often associated with functional improvement. Indeed, growing enthusiasm exists to better understand this population of patients, whereby the LVAD is used as an adjunct to mediate myocardial recovery.

Recent Findings: In antibody-mediated encephalitides, binding of IgG antibodies to neuronal surface antigens results in different pathogenic effects depending on the type of antibody, IgG subclass and epitope specificity. NMDAR IgG1 antibodies cause crosslinking and internalization of the target, synaptic and brain circuitry alterations, as well as alterations of NMDAR expressing oligodendrocytes, suggesting a link with white matter lesions observed in MRI studies.
Background: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Epicardial injection of botulinum toxin may suppress POAF.
Objectives: This study sought to assess the safety and efficacy of AGN-151607 for the prevention of POAF after cardiac surgery.
Background: Heart transplant (HT) in recipients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) is associated with poor early post-HT outcomes, including primary graft dysfunction (PGD). As complicated heart explants in recipients with LVADs may produce longer ischemic times, innovations in donor heart preservation may yield improved post-HT outcomes. The SherpaPak Cardiac Transport System is an organ preservation technology that maintains donor heart temperatures between 4 °C and 8 °C, which may minimize ischemic and cold-induced graft injuries.

Practice-Based Research Networks (PBRN) play a strategic role in translation of primary care research into practice. Research Capacity Building in primary care requires a improvement and development strategy and well-developed research infrastructures to support physicians.

In S. cerevisiae, the HORMAD protein Hop1 mediates the enrichment of axis proteins at nucleosome-rich islands through a central chromatin-binding region (CBR).

Patients with epilepsy showed higher levels of serum CCL2, CCL3, IL-8 and AOPP, and lower levels of FRAP and thiols compared to healthy controls (HC).
