Background: Many patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonia exhibit signs of microthrombosis. Previous studies discussed intravenous fibrinolytic agents as potential add-on therapy in these patients. Therefore, we propose the inhalative administration of fibrinolytics as a possible safer alternative.

The ECMM Candida III study in Europe investigated the changing epidemiology and outcomes of candidaemia for better understanding and management of these infections.
Methods: In this observational cohort study, participating hospitals enrolled the first ten consecutive adults with blood culture-proven candidemia.
Purpose: Several studies have shown that SARS-CoV-2 can induce a massive release of cytokines which contributes to disease severity and mortality. Therefore, cytokine levels in the serum may help to predict disease severity and survival in COVID-19 patients.
Methods: In this prospective trial, 88 patients who were hospitalised for COVID-19 were enrolled.
Background Photon-counting detector (PCD) CT enables ultra-high-resolution lung imaging and may shed light on morphologic correlates of persistent symptoms after COVID-19. Purpose To compare PCD CT with energy-integrating detector (EID) CT for noninvasive assessment of post-COVID-19 lung abnormalities. Materials and Methods For this prospective study, adult participants with one or more COVID-19-related persisting symptoms (resting or exertional dyspnea, cough, fatigue) underwent same-day EID and PCD CT between April 2022 and June 2022.

This study assessed the association of TB mortality with hyponatremia and SIADH in a large cohort of a university hospital in Austria.
Methods: This retrospective study enrolled patients with hyponatremia and patients diagnosed with TB from 01/2001-11/2019 to assess the prevalence of TB in hyponatremia and TB morbidity and mortality in patients with and without hyponatremia.
Elimination of a drug during renal replacement therapy is not only dependent on flow rates, molecular size and protein binding, but is often influenced by difficult to predict drug membrane interactions. models allow for extensive profiling of drug clearance using a wide array of hemofilters and flow rates. We present a bovine blood based pharmacokinetic model for intermittent renal replacement therapy.

Here, we evaluated infection control measures in a prospective longitudinal single-center study at the Vienna General Hospital, the biggest tertiary care center in Austria, with a structurally planned low SARS-CoV-2 exposure. SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies were assessed by Abbott ARCHITECT chemiluminescent assay (CLIA) in 599 health care workers (HCWs) at the start of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in early April and two months later.

Early differentiation between sepsis and febrile neutropenic response often proves to be challenging. To assess the severity of the illness, different tools, which are discussed in this article, are available.
