Background: We aimed to investigate if iron deficiency was associated with infection susceptibility in a large cohort of healthy individuals.

Study Design And Methods: The Danish Blood Donor Study is a national ongoing prospective study of blood donors. We included 94,628 donors with 338,290 ferritin measurements from March 2010 to October 2022.

Faecal microbiota transplantation for patients with diabetes type 1 and severe gastrointestinal neuropathy (FADIGAS): a randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial.

Background: Diabetic gastroenteropathy is associated with nausea, vomiting, bloating, pain, constipation, and diarrhoea. Current therapies are scarce. We tested faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) for patients with type 1 diabetes and gastroenteropathy.

Preventing burnout from moral distress among prehospital emergency personnel through action research and targeted clinical ethics support.

Ethical challenges are integral to health care and are associated with moral distress among health professionals. Moral distress can turn into burnout with a range of negative effects for professionals, patients, relatives, collaborators, and the organisation. Based on action research a focus group study was conducted inclucing prehospital personnel from the emergency services in the Region of Southern Denmark.

The use and impact of prehospital blood lactate measurements in acute non-traumatic patients: a systematic review.

Background: The prehospital use of blood lactate measurements is increasing. However, the test's benefits have not been methodically evaluated in non-trauma patients. This study had three aims: (1) To assess the evidence of prehospital blood lactate measurements' prognostic value in non-trauma patients, (2) to investigate to what extent the test changed early patient treatment, and (3) to evaluate the healthcare personnel's attitude towards the test.

The extent of physical and psychological workplace violence experienced by prehospital personnel in Denmark: a survey.

Background: Workplace violence against healthcare workers has been a well-known problem for more than 40 years. This problem is also relevant for prehospital personnel who are at risk of physical and/or psychological violence during work. Violence and threats of violence can have physical and psychological consequences, including personal challenges in their everyday life, use of sick days, reports, and the need for professional help.

Early Restrictive vs Liberal Oxygen for Trauma Patients: The TRAUMOX2 Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Early administration of supplemental oxygen for all severely injured trauma patients is recommended, but liberal oxygen treatment has been associated with increased risk of death and respiratory complications.

Objective: To determine whether an early 8-hour restrictive oxygen strategy compared with a liberal oxygen strategy in adult trauma patients would reduce death and/or major respiratory complications.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This randomized controlled trial enrolled adult trauma patients transferred directly to hospitals, triggering a full trauma team activation with an anticipated hospital stay of a minimum of 24 hours from December 7, 2021, to September 12, 2023.

Instead, Santa Claus should rely on roe deer, which are predominant in Denmark. However, the population of roe deer may be threatened by collisions between ambulances and roe deer.

An assessment of long-term complications following prehospital intraosseous access: A nationwide study.

Background: The guidelines for Advanced Life Support issued by the European Resuscitation Council recommend considering drug delivery through intraosseous access if intravenous access to the vascular bed is not feasible or unsuccessful. Emergency prehospital intraosseous cannulation may theoretically lead to an increased risk of long-term complications such as osteomyelitis, osteonecrosis, or compartment syndrome. Such complications have previously been reported in case reports or small sample case series.

Background: Signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) is central to type 2 (T2) inflammation, and common noncoding variants at the STAT6 locus associate with various T2 inflammatory traits, including diseases, and its pathway is widely targeted in asthma treatment.

Objective: We sought to test the association of a rare missense variant in STAT6, p.L406P, with T2 inflammatory traits, including the risk of asthma and allergic diseases, and to characterize its functional consequences in cell culture.

Background: Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a highly effective treatment for infection. Its use is backed by solid evidence, but application methods differ. Encapsulated FMT is a non-invasive, patient-friendly and scalable application method that may be preferred over colonoscopy or nasoduodenal tube application.

Background: It has long been hypothesized that inflammation contributes to migraine pathophysiology. This study examined the association between migraine and alleles in the HLA system, a key player in immune response and genetic diversity.

Patients' use of Danish emergency medical services before and during the COVID-19 pandemic: a register-based study.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, disturbing images of ambulances unable to respond to the demands for prehospital assistance appeared from several parts of the world. In Denmark, however, a notion occurred that the demands for emergency medical assistance declined. The purpose of this study was to compare the patients' use of the Danish Emergency Medical Services (EMS) before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A plant-based diet is feasible in patients with Crohn's disease.

Background: Incorporating plant-based diets as a supplement to medical treatment may have a beneficial impact on patients with Crohn's disease, however, research with intervention studies is required.

Objective: To investigate the feasibility of a plant-based diet intervention. Secondly, the purpose was to investigate whether such diet may reduce disease activity and enhance quality of life.

Balancing Donor Health and Plasma Collection: A Systematic Review of the Impact of Plasmapheresis Frequency.

Most plasma used for manufacturing plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) such as albumin, immunoglobulin (Ig), and clotting factors is obtained from source plasma collected via plasmapheresis, the majority of which is contributed by the United States (US). While the demand for PDMPs continues to rise, it remains unclear whether high-frequency plasmapheresis, such as the twice-weekly plasma donation allowed in the US, may have any (long-term) adverse health effects on the donor. To investigate the frequency at which plasma can be donated without harm to the donor, the current systematic review explores the impact of plasma donation frequency on cardiovascular health, protein depletion, and adverse events in healthy plasma donors.

COVID-19 Vaccination Before Initiating Rituximab Treatment Induces Strong Serological Response in Autoimmune Rheumatic Disease, Reducing Post-Pandemic Concerns About the Impact of Rituximab.

Objective: Rituximab (RTX)-treated patients exhibit suboptimal responses to COVID-19 vaccines. However, existing research primarily involves patients already receiving RTX when vaccines were introduced, failing to account for the current landscape where patients are vaccinated before initiating RTX. Our objective was to compare the serological response to COVID-19 vaccines in patients vaccinated before or after RTX initiation.

Pulmonary rehabilitation: A cohort study assessing the effectiveness of a multi-professional nutrition intervention.

Background: Limited benefit of pulmonary exercise rehabilitation has been associated with fulfilment of energy and protein requirements.

Objectives: The aim was to enhance dietary intake towards requirements and to maintain changes after a pulmonary rehabilitation program.

Methods: This single arm intervention study included multidisciplinary focus on nutrition and three sessions of individual dietary counselling during a 10-week pulmonary exercise rehabilitation in five municipalities centers.

Background & Aims: Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is associated with high mortality. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is an established treatment for recurrent CDI, but its use for first or second CDI remains experimental. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of FMT for first or second CDI in a real-world clinical setting.

Mortality after paediatric emergency calls for patients with or without pre-existing comorbidity: a nationwide population based cohort study.

Background: Life-threatening conditions are infrequent in children. Current literature in paediatric prehospital research is centred around trauma and paediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (POHCA). The aims of this study were to (1) outline the distribution of trauma, POHCA or other medical symptoms among survivors and non-survivors after paediatric emergency calls, and (2) to investigate these clinical presentations' association with mortality in children with and without pre-existing comorbidity, respectively.

Background: Ethical challenges constitute an inseparable part of daily decision-making processes in all areas of healthcare. Ethical challenges are associated with moral distress that can lead to burnout. Clinical ethics support has proven useful to address and manage such challenges.

Treat and release: an observational study of non-conveyed high-acuity dispatches in a Danish emergency medical system.

Non-conveyance refers to the practice of treating a patient on-site without transporting them to a medical facility. It may decrease unnecessary hospital transfers and improve patient satisfaction. Nonetheless, ensuring patient safety remains paramount.
