There is a wide variety of methods available for establishing animal models depending on the research question. All-cause mortality among Danish nursing home residents before and during the COVID-19 pandemic: a nationwide cohort study.

A substantial part of mortality during the COVID-19-pandemic occurred among nursing home residents which caused alarm in many countries. We investigate nursing home mortality in relation to the expected mortality prior to the pandemic. This nationwide register-based study included all 135,501 Danish nursing home residents between 2015 until October 6, 2021.

KRAS G12C mutated advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC): Characteristics, treatment patterns and overall survival from a Danish nationwide observational register study.

Objectives: We aimed to characterize the advanced NSCLC population in terms of KRAS G12C prevalence, patient characteristics, and survival outcomes after the introduction of immunotherapies.

Materials And Methods: We identified adult patients diagnosed with advanced NSCLC between January 1, 2018 and June 30, 2021 using the Danish health registries. Patients were grouped by mutational status (any KRAS mutation, KRAS G12C, and KRAS/EGFR/ALK wildtype [Triple WT]).

ICP monitoring still relies heavily on invasive measure modalities. Non-invasive pressure modalities would exclude some of the difficulties of the invasive: procedure-related complications and accessibility.

Mild trauma causing cervical fracture through transverse foramen leading to a vertebral arteriovenous fistula.

Vertebral arteriovenous fistula (vAVF) is an uncommon vascular disease defined as abnormal connections between the vertebral artery or its branches extracranially with nearby venous structures. This case report outlines the case of a man in his late 70s presenting with C1-C3 fractures after a mild trauma falling down a small staircase. CT angiogram (CTA) gave suspicion of vertebral artery dissection and pseudoaneurysm; however, digital subtraction angiography revealed a fracture-induced vAVF successfully treated endovascularly with coils.

This review gives a summary of osteoarthritis (OA) of the spine involving the facet and the sacroiliac joints. Facet joint OA is widely prevalent in adults, and is thought to be a common cause of back and neck pain. The prevalence of facet and SI-joint mediated pain increases with age, suggesting that OA might have a particularly important role in older adults with spinal pain.

A new novel method for assessing intracranial pressure using non-invasive fundus images: a pilot study.

Arteriole and venule diameter ratio (A/V-ratio) can be measured using fundus photography. In this pilot study, we correlated changes in the intracranial pressure with the diameter of vessels of the retina. We investigated whether increased intracranial pressure (ICP) was reflected in a measurable and quantifiable distention of the venule diameter, leading to a decreased A/V-ratio.

Breast Reduction with Deskinning of a Superomedial Pedicle: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: In most breast reduction techniques, the pedicle of the nipple-areola complex (NAC) is de-epithelialized to preserve the subdermal plexus, thereby decreasing the risk of NAC necrosis. However, deskinning the pedicle is faster and makes it more pliable, which potentially improves the aesthetic outcome. There is no scientific evidence regarding the beneficial effects of de-epithelialization.

How do people with rheumatoid arthritis experience participation in a smoking cessation trial: a qualitative study.

: The aim of this study was to gain more knowledge on how people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) experienced participation in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) testing the effect of a smoking cessation intervention since this intervention have not been tested on an RA population before: We conducted a qualitative study with semi-structured individual interviews with 12 participants from the intervention group in the RCT.: Through thematic analysis we identified four themes: , referring to the initial invitation to participate in the RCT; , referring to cooperation with the smoking cessation counsellor, improved carbon monoxide levels, fear of becoming addicted to nicotine replacement therapy, and suggestions for additional components in the intervention which could promote motivation; , referring to ongoing reflection on quitting smoking; and , referring to the lack of information on smoking and RA from health professionals, and the impact of smoking on RA symptoms and overall health.: The results reflect the participants' perspective on what is meaningful to them when trying to quit smoking and adds important knowledge to future smoking cessation studies in this patient group.

Randomized double blind clinical trial of ABM/P-15 versus allograft in noninstrumented lumbar fusion surgery.

Background Context: Due to poor bone stock in the elderly, a noninstrumented fusion is commonly performed in Scandinavia when instability is present. Allograft bone is often used as graft extender with consequent low fusion rates. The use of 15 amino acid residue (ABM/P-15) has shown superior fusion rates in dental and cervical spinal surgery but no clinical studies have been conducted in noninstrumented lumbar fusion surgery.

The complex collisional properties of atoms fundamentally limit investigations into a range of processes in many-atom ensembles. In contrast, the bottom-up assembly of few- and many-body systems from individual atoms offers a controlled approach to isolating and studying such collisional processes. Here, we use optical tweezers to individually assemble pairs of trapped Rb atoms, and study the spin dynamics of the two-body system in a thermal state.

Our objectives were to investigate how amputation affects estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and to determine if dosing recommendations differ among different eGFR equations.
