Same-quadrant tube exchange and multiple-layer closure for recurrent tube erosion: Surgical technique description and preliminary results.

Purpose: This report describes a surgical approach involving a 5-layer closure performed for a patient with uveitic glaucoma who had an Ahmed Glaucoma Valve placed 12 years prior to presentation, then erosions which were revised 2 and 4 years ago. Additionally, the patient had a Descemet Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) completed 4 years prior to presentation. The patient presented with a tube that was eroded and a DSEK that had failed.

Determining the association of insurance coverage and survival outcomes in patients with olfactory neuroblastoma utilizing machine learning.

We use machine learning to examine health insurance and mortality in olfactory neuroblastoma. Private insurance significantly improved survival even after adjusting for confounders. The regression model also found no statistical difference between Medicare and no insurance.

Current social determinants of health and social risk factors in conditions of the cornea: a scoping review.

Purpose Of Review: To achieve health equity in eye health and vision care, social determinants of health (SDoH) and the associated social risk factors must be addressed. To address SDoH and social risk factors in ophthalmology, they must first be identified. The purpose of this review was to determine the SDoH and social risk factors in conditions of the cornea that have most recently been explored.

A scoping review of patients' barriers to eye care for glaucoma and keratitis.

In this scoping review, we examine underlying causes of loss to follow-up for chronic (glaucoma) and acute (corneal ulcers) eye conditions using the Penchansky and Thomas access to care framework. We explore barriers by World Health Organization income levels and by studying geographical location. We identified 6,363 abstracts, with 75 articles retrieved and 16 meeting inclusion criteria.

Embolization in Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Objective: To compare outcomes of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) resection between embolized and non-embolized cohorts, and between transarterial embolization (TAE) and direct puncture embolization (DPE).

Data Sources: Per PRISMA guidelines, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were searched for publications prior to or in 2021.

Materials And Methods: Original English manuscripts investigating the resection of JNA with and without preoperative embolization were included.

Melanoma: Molecular genetics, metastasis, targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and therapeutic resistance.

Cutaneous melanoma is a common cancer and cases have steadily increased since the mid 70s. For some patients, early diagnosis and surgical removal of melanomas is lifesaving, while other patients typically turn to molecular targeted therapies and immunotherapies as treatment options. Easy sampling of melanomas allows the scientific community to identify the most prevalent mutations that initiate melanoma such as the BRAF, NRAS, and TERT genes, some of which can be therapeutically targeted.

Timing of Ocular Hypertension After Pediatric Closed-Globe Traumatic Hyphema: Implications for Surveillance.

Purpose: To evaluate the timing of ocular hypertension (OHT) after pediatric closed-globe injury (CGI) and traumatic hyphema. We hypothesize that OHT will occur at different times based on injury characteristics.

Design: Retrospective, cohort study.
