X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is a powerful tool for examining changes of the electronic and molecular structure following light-induced excitation of a molecule. Specifically, this method can be applied to investigate the ground (GS, RuNO) and metastable states (MS1, RuON and MS2, Ruη(NO)) of the nitrosyl ligand (NO), which differ in their coordination mode to the metal. In this work, we report for the first time experimental and theoretical (DFT) Ru L,-edge XA spectra for the octahedral complex trans-[RuNOPyF](ClO) (1, Py = pyridine) in both ground and metastable states.

Mutations in methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (MeCP2), such as the T158M, P152R, R294X, and R306C mutations, are responsible for most Rett syndrome (RTT) cases. These mutations often result in altered protein expression that appears to correlate with changes in the nuclear size; however, the molecular details of these observations are poorly understood. Using a C2C12 cellular system expressing human MeCP2-E1 isoform as well as mouse models expressing these mutations, we show that T158M and P152R result in a decrease in MeCP2 protein, whereas R306C has a milder variation, and R294X resulted in an overall 2.

Article Synopsis
  • Photoinduced linkage isomers (PLI) of NO in transition-metal nitrosyl compounds can be identified through significant shifts in the (NO) stretching vibration using vibrational spectroscopy.
  • In the study of K[RuClNO], the (NO) stretch shifts by about 150 cm from the N-bound ground state to the oxygen-bound metastable state, and by around 360 cm to the side-on metastable isomer.
  • The research found strong coupling between N-O stretching modes and Ru-N/Ru-O stretching modes, which can be separated to analyze local force constants, revealing that the charge on the NO ligand does not correlate with the frequency shifts observed.

With its high rate of consanguineous marriages and diverse ethnic population, little is currently understood about the genetic architecture of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Pakistan. Pakistan has a highly ethnically diverse population, yet with a high proportion of endogamous marriages, and is therefore anticipated to be enriched for biallelic disease-relate variants. Here, we attempt to determine the underlying genetic abnormalities causing ASD in thirty-six small simplex or multiplex families from Pakistan.

The article considers the issues of working out the suitable approaches for identifying zones with the presence of underground near-surface waters with increased concentrations of tritium discharged into a surface reservoir. The following methods were used as possible methods: determination of tritium content in snow cover, determination of tritium content in vegetation in the form of tritium of free water and organically bound tritium, determination of tritium content in river water and coastal vegetation. The studies were carried out at a previously identified site where groundwater with a tritium concentration of up to 6000 Bq/l is present, located in the vicinity of the city of Obninsk (Kaluga region, Russia).

A method for correcting the matrix effect by measuring the intensity of fluorescent radiation and its absorption by the sample material in the same x-ray optical scheme is proposed. The use of a complex secondary Ag-Ge emitter as a primary radiation source provides a low detection limit for a wide range of chemical elements from Ca (Z = 20) to Mo (Z = 42) in the K-series and from Cd (Z = 48) to Bi (Z = 83) in the L-series. To measure the absorption, the radiation of an additional secondary emitter is used, of which the wavelength can be varied in the range from 0.

An efficient nitrite nickel(II) photoswitch, with the 1-phenyl-2-hydroxyimino-3-[(2'-dimethylamino)ethyl]imino-1-propanone moiety used as the ancillary ligand, is reported. In the ground-state ('dark') crystal structure, the studied compound exists predominantly as the nitro-(η -N(O) ) isomer, however, traces of the exo- and endo-nitrito-(η -ONO) forms are detected both at 100 K (4-5 % each) and under ambient conditions (~9 % each). When excited with the 405-530 nm LED light, the nitro-to-nitrito isomerization takes place.

Proteorhodopsins (PRs), bacterial light-driven outward proton pumps comprise the first discovered and largest family of rhodopsins, they play a significant role in life on the Earth. A big remaining mystery was that up-to-date there was no described bacterial rhodopsins pumping protons at acidic pH despite the fact that bacteria live in different pH environment. Here we describe conceptually new bacterial rhodopsins which are operating as outward proton pumps at acidic pH.

Article Synopsis
  • Photoinduced linkage isomers (PLIs) of the nitro-ligand were created and analyzed in a square planar structure of the complex salts, utilizing various structural (XRD) and spectroscopic (IR, UV-vis) methods to identify different photoinduced isomers generated through irradiation.
  • Irradiation at low temperatures (10-80 K) produced both -ONO and -ONO isomers, while heating to higher temperatures (up to 150 K) favored the formation of only -ONO isomers, suggesting that intermolecular interactions, particularly with water, affect their structural arrangement.
  • The study also outlined a detailed thermal decay process for -ONO isomers through two steps to revert to NO, determining kinetic parameters and decay temperatures
