Recently, hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) based therapy is being discussed as a possible treatment for HIV infection. The main advantage of this approach is that it limits the immune impairing effect of infection by introducing an independent influx of antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL).
