Therapeutic response to selective serotonin (5-HT) reuptake inhibitors in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) varies considerably among patients, and the onset of antidepressant therapeutic action is delayed until after 2 to 4 weeks of treatment. The objective of this study was to analyze changes within methoxyindole and kynurenine (KYN) branches of tryptophan pathway to determine whether differential regulation within these branches may contribute to mechanism of variation in response to treatment. Metabolomics approach was used to characterize early biochemical changes in tryptophan pathway and correlated biochemical changes with treatment outcome.

Objective: To determine whether serum and cerebrospinal fluid concentrations of urate predict clinical progression in patients with PD.
Design, Setting, And Participants: Eight hundred subjects with early PD enrolled in the Deprenyl and Tocopherol Antioxidative Therapy of Parkinsonism (DATATOP) trial.
Substantial evidence suggest that oxidative damage may play a role in the pathogenesis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). We examined levels of 8-Hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8OH2'dG) in the nuclear DNA from the spinal cord, frontal cortex, striatum and cerebellum from G93A mice at 60, 90, and 120 days of age. We also used in vivo microdialysis to measure free levels of 8OH2'dG and 8-Hydroxyguanine (8OHG) at the same time points in the frontal cortex of G93A mice.

In this study, urinary 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8OH2'dG), a metabolite of oxidized DNA, was measured to determine if antiretroviral therapy leads to oxidative damage to DNA. A cross-sectional study was carried out measuring urinary 8OH2'dG in three groups of HIV-infected patients: (1) antiretroviral medication naïve, (2) patients on antiretroviral medications without lipodystrophy and (3) patients on antiretroviral medications with lipodystrophy.
