Background: The cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) measure of arterial stiffness is associated with prevalent cardiovascular risk factors, while its predictive value for cardiovascular events remains to be established. The aim was to determine associations of CAVI with cardiovascular morbimortality (primary outcome) and all-cause mortality (secondary outcome), and to establish the determinants of CAVI progression.

Methods: TRIPLE-A-Stiffness, an international multicentre prospective longitudinal study, enrolled >2000 subjects ≥40 years old at 32 centres from 18 European countries.

The article deals with intergenerational relationships and mutual assessments, gives an idea of the values of young people and the elderly, obtained on the basis of interviews. The authors come to the conclusion about the natural variability of intergenerational relationships, which due to adaptive capabilities, do not lead to real conflict between the studied age groups.

Aim: To study the effectiveness of prolonged use of PAP therapy (positive airway pressure therapy) in eliminating sleep respiratory disorders and associated cardiac conduction disturbances.

Materials And Methods: We included 21 patients who were examined at the Myasnikov Institute of Clinical Cardiology, National Medical Research Center of Cardiology, regarding cardiac rhythm and conduction disturbances, as well as obstructive sleep apnea and who have been on PAP therapy for more than 12 months. The average age was 66.

Some unexpected sporadic increases of an environmental radioactive background have been recorded at mountain level at Baksan Neutrino Observatory (BNO, 1700 m above sea level) using electron-neutron detectors (en-detectors), which could be explained by radioactive aerosol enhancements. The large area inorganic scintillator en-detectors developed for cosmic ray study are continuously monitoring environmental thermal neutron fluxes at various geophysical conditions. Application of the pulse shape discrimination method allows us to select and separately measure both thermal neutrons and radioactive beta-decay nuclides being products of radon decays in air (mostly Rn-222 and Rn-220).

Relevance: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is an important medical and social problem due to its high prevalence and impact on quality of life. The relationship between OSAS and cardiovascular pathology has been proven by many studies, which confirms the necessity for early diagnosis of OSAS and its treatment for the prevention of fatal and non-fatal events.

Aim: to study epidemiological and clinical profile of the patients referred by a cardiologist to a specialized sleep laboratory to verify the diagnosis of OSAS.

Aim: To evaluate the influence of cardiovascular risk factors on antihypertensive therapy (AHT) efficiency escape (EE).

Subjects And Methods: Data on 59 patients with grades 1-3 hypertension (Stages I-II) were analyzed. During chosen AHT, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring was done at baseline, 1 and 3 months after beginning the observation to identify/rule out the AHT EE phenomenon.

The purpose of this study was to give the description of harmful effects of the impact of electromagnetic radiations from base stations of cellular communication as the most common sources of radio frequencies of electromagnetic fields in the environment. The highest values of the energy flux density were measured on the roofs of houses where antennas are installed - more than 10 pW/cm. The lowest values were recorded in inside premises with expositions of 0.

Highly sensitive liquid chromatography mass spectrometry method on triple quadrupole (QQQ) mass spectrometer was successfully applied for pharmacokinetic study of stepharine in rabbit plasma. Specific ion transitions of stepharine protonated precursor ion were selected and recorded in the certain retention time employing dynamic selected reaction monitoring mode. The developed method facilitated quantitative measurements of stepharine in plasma samples in linear range of five orders of magnitude with high accuracy and low standard deviation coefficient and pharmacokinetics parameters were calculated.

The article presents the results of the 20-years' long activity of the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology founded to fulfill the basic and applied tasks in the sphere of gerontology and to integrate with medical practice new methods for preventing premature aging and age-related pathology by means of pharmaceuticals based on peptide bioregulators. Among the Institute main achievements are the scientific developments in the field of peptide regulation of aging, creation of a new medical domain--bioregulation therapy, and foundation of the Russian school of biogerontology. As a result of investigations, a key role of peptides in the regulation of aging process has been established, and a method of bioregulators complex application has been developed to increase organism resistance to various unfavorable factors and enhancement of human vital resource.

The purpose of this study was to assess short- and long-term efficacy of combined-modality therapy (comprising PGE1-group preparations and immunocorrection) used to treat indolent trophic ulcers in patients presenting with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and cutaneous angiitis. Examined herein were both immediate and remote therapeutic outcomes obtained in patients suffering from indolent trophic ulcers secondary to CVI (post-thrombophlebic disease [PTPD] and varicose disease [VD]), as well as ulcers resulting from vasculitis or vasculopathy. The conventional therapy was supplemented with infusion of PGE1-group preparations and immunocorrection.

Aim: To study the prevalence and expression of antilactoferrin, IgA- and slgA-protease activity of gonococci and state of local immunity during various forms of urogenital gonorrhea.

Materials And Methods: Ability to inactivate lactoferrin (ALfA), IgA and secretory IgA (slgA) was studied in 28 Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains isolated from patients with localized gonorrhea and 26 strains isolated from patients with systemic signs of gonorrhea. State of the local immunity was assessed on the lactoferrin, IgA and slgA levels, which were measured by immunofluorescence assay in ejaculate of 54 patients with gonorrhea and 18 healthy males.

CYP1A2 expression is constitutively high in mouse liver and is well known for metabolizing several drugs and many procarcinogens to reactive intermediates that can cause toxicity or cancer. In the present study, the basal level of hepatic CYP1A2 activity was shown to vary among different inbred mouse strains. The highest methoxyresorufin-O-demethylase activity (261+/-52pmol/mgprotein/min) was registered in CC57BR and the lowest (82+/-11pmol/mgprotein/min) in C3H/a.
